Hey, has anyone sprayed the orange plasic bit under the indicator?

Does it just pop out?
Will it brake off?
What is its purpose?

It is designed by the same genius that inspired the [bright] switch

Subie Gal 21 June 2001 08:22 PM

Andy, LOL http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

J., your car looks very cool... respect !

Indeed, it pops out pretty easily. I used a bit of kleenex around the screwdriver to pop it out, just so I wouldn't damage the paintwork. Pops out from the top if I remember correctly.

The best way to get those out is to unscrew the indicator above and just push to unclip it from behind.

Simple and no damage http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I got a bodyshop to do mine and they didn't even charge me!!!!!
Looks far better (reminds me must get clear indicators)

I just used paint stripper (Strypit) and the orange paint dissolved easily, after a bit of rubbing with an old toothbrush. You are then left with a nice matt black finish(the colour of the base material).

The advantage of this method is any stone chips you get don't show up orange!

The small Orange Grills duct air on to the front brakes.

I got them out by levering them with a screwdriver from the top, protecting the bumper with a thick rag, then pulled them forward with pliers. I figured it didn't matter too much if they got lightly marked in the process, after all I was about to respray them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

That looks much better in black AndyC. What sort of paint did you use?

ChrisB.

I used some spray paint I got from Homebase, a Hammerite high temp one (more for BBQs) but it said it was chip resistant!!

They're actually blue - they just look black in the photo because they're in shadow. I used grey plastic primer, Rover Tahiti Blue Pearlescent '93, and clear lacquer, all Halfords' own. The Rover paint is even closer to DBM than Subaru's own touch-up paint!

No stone chips yet, but with 3 coats of lacquer and 4 of colour it should be OK. Hadn't realised that they were actually painted orange in the first place, I thought they were just moulded out of orange plastic!

Is there an easy answer for Sonic Blue as well? What about spraying it silver to match clear indicators?

Cheers
