Hi,

I'm going to put together a letter/fact sheet to send to my MP and anyone else I feel apropriate, so I'd like some facts and figures please.

If you have links to sites etc where I can find figures for stuff like, accidents where speed was to blame, non driver fault accidents, proof to say cars a good safe thing, public transport is crap and not a viable alternative, government spending on roads/ public transport and such like, I'll include them in my letter. ( phew, is that the longest sentence ever!)

Also, I'll try write it out so it's not centred around one recipiant, so if anyone else wants a copy to send to their MP, blanks can be filled in.

Lets see if we can do something to stop this anti car movement[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

Following on from some of the recent posts about speed cameras, "entrapment" and the general attitudes of the police and government towards drivers, I have been thinking about something similar myself.

I was wondering if we could come up with some sort of common complaint, and then present that as a group to the government - with several thousand members hopefully, the Scoobynet community could have more influence than a few lone voices.

Of course, saying "We want to get rid of speed cameras cos they keep costing us 60 quid" is going to get nowhere, but if we can come up with some sort of constructive argument, reasoning and maybe even suggestions, then maybe that will have more effect.

For example, a number of people have said that it isn't speed that kills - it's poor driver education. If we were to present this argument, with any statistics that back it up, and indeed some ideas towards dealing with the problem, then I feel that would be viewed with more interest.

SWRT, that's exactly what I was thinking!:D There's no point just saying stop catching people speeding cos it's crap! We need facts to back up our argument. Speed camera's have their uses, we should argue to have them moved into area's where they might be some use, ie outside schools.
