If you don't want to help fair enough ! not 100% sure about the subject a bit overwhelmed with different set ups and new on here but thanks anyway for your kind help

Hi.. I've had numerous set ups on the same car.. Had Bc that I found good for the price points.. not to harsh.. Of the four different set ups my current ST X coil overs( requiring OEM/GP N top mounts) have been the best for comfort and feel.. The price point is similar to going down the KYB and eibach spring path..

JdmSti2006 12 June 2023 02:19 PM

I had meister crd+ 8/7 springs, to hard setup for UK roads ,crashy like bc br ,swapped them for oem struts with GroupN top mounts ,not bad but did not like a look of car ,still to hard on rear and bouncy, started knocking at rear( common issue) swapped them for meisterr gt1's 6/5 springs and like them a lot on softest settings, really comfy with very good handling. Did not like them on 20/16 from hard, rear was to bouncy need to play with them yet.
Had bc br 6/5 on wrx, crashy but had them 6 years with no issues at all.

@@Michelle2000, How old is the BC set on the car.. If it they quite new it could be worth reaching out to BC and see if changing the springs for something soft was an option.

JdmSti2006 13 June 2023 11:27 AM

Nothing better on the market than gt1's for road car,was thinking about b16 but to stiff(chevron fit softer springs on their sets) kw v3 are not bad but not for me ,ast are double a price but fail quickly, nitron and exe tc expensive and more track focused ,doubt nitron r1 are better maybe r3 but 4.5k ,ohlins dfv available for 08 and above imprezas. Silvers 2 way adjustable coilovers will be my 2nd choice.

Hi I'm just trying to find the very best fast road setup for my 2001 bug sti wagon. Planning on keeping the red KYB struts at the mo and replacing springs with an uprated kit but struggling for info on spring rate for the rear as it's slightly different for the wagon than the saloon. My other scoob is blob wrx wagon with Meister R Zeta CRDs which handles very well now especially with 8" wheels but still bangs a fair bit on rough surfaces so was going try eliminate this crashing but try to replacate the handling ability.of the coilovers using the original struts. Not sure if it's possible, can't find the correct spring rate for the Eibach kit for a wagon so looking into whiteline kit atm and will also consult Chevron Motorsport in Stafford. Might wind up spending a lot on some high end coilovers in the end anyway but any input on this would be appreciated !!

Eibach WA/A2+A3
Linear 246lb/in front, linear 223lb/in rear.
5mm difference in rear ride height, between wagon and saloon.

Best thing that happened to them cause they're pure scrap.

They are designed to pair with inverted and non-inverted struts, that can damp sti-rate springs. Eg:
OEM Subaru inverted
Koni inserts non-inverted
KYB agx non-inverted
KYB ultra sr inverted
KYB ultra sr non-inverted
Bilstein inverted
Haven't tried with Tein enduropro plus.

Dampers are designed to control spring oscillations. Adjustable dampers are not designed adjust ride comfort. If that's what you are trying to effect, your springs are too stiff.

Road car springs are selected by ride frequency (Hz). Which is a calculation based on:
weight distribution
unsprung weight
wheel base
vehicle speed
motion ratio

More than around 1.8Hz at the rear, is going to be a handful on a b-road. Coilovers rarely take ride frequencies into account - which is why coilovers can be too stiff and suffer from pitch = their front spring rate is often too high, compared too the rear spring rate.

Bump travel and droop travel are important. Whenever, I've specified a damper, I maximize these measurements, taking into account the spring design.
Distance to bump stop engagement and bump stop durometer is critical. Too low a ride-height means you are running on the bump stops.
