Subaru newage rear arch repair
Hi guys
Who is everyone using to have there rear archs done ours is starting to go on the inside so want to get them done before they get any worse, tempted to get the whole car refreshed at the same time. We are in South Wales but can travel got a budget of 4k |
4K lol wow, when you say doing your arches, do you mean rebuilding the strut turrets, or just outer arch panel, or removing the rear quarter and going on a rust hunt?
|
4k to get the arches repaired and the car refreshed isnt a 'wow' figure, its a realistic figure to get done properly.

It's a insane price for outer arches. You'd be an idiot paying that. Place round my end known for being over priced quoted a grand for one side and respraying a panel and other arch.
Most places quoted £500 for the same job. Inner strut turrets are different. But still not a 4K job.

Yea same here. Not had a quote like that from anyone. But as said depends how much you want done. Some guy on here had the rear quarters removed replaced and any rust removed. Had loads done, but he'd owned it from new. And worked out it would be cheaper than buying a new Impreza.

I love my Subaru but I would not pay 4K for something that may end up coming back. I would sell it and find a better base to start again with.
Just from my experience - All the best with the car though. |

I need about same on mine, its been fully undersealed from new, so underneath is ok. Just rust on rear arches, turrets etc all fine, i spent ages washing them as seen owners on here with stunning inner arches, painted etc look cleaner than my loo lol

i’ve just been breaking my 05 fsti , 113 k on the clock , it had rusty sills and other areas coming up , plus rear near side rust on the outer arch which was not going away but did not look too bad and was not structural , i did under seal the car when i bought it , but i’m not sure if under sealed the inner arches , i took the coilover off and in went straight through the outer part of the turret , at least a fist sized hole , not even visible unless you poke the area , passed it’s mot in june , worrying rust that’s very hidden away
|
That is true - post some pics if you get the work done.

Having just done the exact thing to my own v7 STi prodrive uk I can comment a little based on experience.
4K is not a wow figure. It’s perfectly reasonable as a budget and will 100% be a steal of a price if you can get it (assuming no work done by you or any mates rates). i was £5,000 for full respray, Windows out and repair numerous dents, rust spots around windscreen and bonnet etc. Repair of fibreglass front splitter too as they are discontinued from HTAutos now. that included no welding. i had the welding done by a friend of a friend and it was £650. i bought OEM n/s and o/s sill sections from Subaru at £250 a side (have the part numbers if need be) and cut out the old ones. They didn’t show any signs of rust just the usual crushed jacking points and a little orange from below. Once off I was glad we replaced as they were starting to go really bad inside. the welder fab’d the strut towers as the inner arches were not bad enough to fully replace. They weren’t far away though! I baremetal’d the inner arches and underside and coated with rust bullet and raptor myself. fully powder coat everything below and polybuahed everything. total was circa 8k. obviously you can discount some of the above but expect to pay £4K upwards atleast. Especially if you want a good job at the end. to be fair I was shocked at how bad it was as I barely drove in the winter and garaged the car for 5+ years. I’ve had it for 8. good luck and I hope you get what you’re looking for, for a good price! Enjoy! |
As I said all depends what he's having done. One of my Impreza's is currently having loads of body work done.
My mates doing it, sills, and rear arches in and out, he said chassis is solid just the inner skin is bad. It's all been cut out, and just finished one sill. |
My Bug Wrx was undersealed properly from new, it had no rust showing outside or on inner arches at all but when i broke it i found the turret walls where as thin as paper and broke through with some poking, front lower rad panel, and rear of sills bubbling inside out. so its best to go mad with a pencil camera before giving to someone as once there open it up it can be much further than thought, i Eden up buying a fresh import as was only 50% more than putting mine right and all ive had to do is cavity wax it all to last alot longer .
|
All this talk of rust makes me want to flog mine, it’s all doom and gloom. Mine is undersealed from new and I’ve had tonnes of work done underneath without any specialist raising any concerns but it’s all in the post for sure!!

All old cars rust, I really don't see the point of this conversion lol
Yes my strut turrets on my garaged Impreza are fine, but the inside skin in the strut turret closest to the arch feels thin. I think these rust from the inside, not sure where the water comes from, guessing boot area. But the cars 23 years old. It's not doing too bad. Seen some cars half the age in worse, take the Ford Ka's, seen newer ones of those rotten a lot so bad, but plastic panels hiding it all from mot's.

True like ours is not bad for a 19year old car like I just would like to sort stuff before they trun into a nightmare. Only problem I see I'd people seem to want to charge twice the price when they know you drive a sti haha I don't mind 3.5k for archs and a respray though |
