Quite fancy one of these, Had a Grand Cherokee 4.0L on hire in the states ifor a week and loved it.
Anyone driven the 2.5TD? Many thanks Paul |

TaviaRS
Many thanks, please do just that. Paul |
Number plate position looks crap on the back (it's a long one across the spare wheel, instead of a square one on the bodywork).
I think the 'Sport' version (with the black bumpers) looks better than the 'Limited' version. The 2.4 petrol is supposed to be crap, but the 2.5D does about 35mpg. 3.7 V6 looks nice if you can afford to run it. Actually, I think with these sort of cars you should really have a diesel anyway. |

Because the torque characteristics of a diesel suit mud-plugging better. Of course, most people never do any mud-plugging with a 4x4 anyway
|
It's not all about mud plugging - mine's for towing a boat and getting it out of the water up a wet slip road. So mostly on road use and an occasional requirement for ground clearance and 4wd.
I bought the V8 as it has a better 4wd system than the 4.0 - it will actually lock up all 3 diffs fully. For what I do 4wd is a bit like ABS - I don't need it 99% of the time, but when I do, I really do - coz it means I'm stuck on a beach with a tide coming in....... Used to have a modified Landrover for playing in the mud but you can't do much in anything that you care too much about - the landie didn't have a straight panel on it. |
Hang on, you can't get a new Cherokee V8. Do you mean Grand Cherokee?
|
That's what I put in my original reply ;)
Sorry - dragging this thread off at a bit of a tangent....... |
Paul,
I bought one just before Christmas last year. Black Limited Diesel with all the bits. Heated leather seats Brushed Steel odds and sods. They look really chunky and macho - but the missus and me couldn't get on with it. I eventually sold the thing around March of this year. I can't say I was sorry to see her go! I have to admit when I see one on the road I still really like the look and the idea of one. However, the reality of owning one didn't quite live up to my expectations. Perhaps if I'd bought the petrol version I would still have it. At low revs pulling out of junctions it was so sluggish it was positively dangerous, I kid you not!! Regards Paul. |
Petrol with a LPG conversion ?
|
|
got an old shape td 2.5 from last year, well impressed
|
The petrol Grand is as quick as a Scoob out of junctions.
Why not just go down to your local Jeep dealer and test drive one ? |
Come on be real they are rubbish... Interior must be by "Ikea"
Ask Americans what they think of them................ Not much. |
A scoob owner slagging off an interior http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/lolup.gif
What do most people think of Scoobies - doesn't make then correct ! IMHO the Jeep is good - if you want that sort of thing. If you want a performance car then yes it's crap. |
In the Jeeps defence.....it's far from crap!!
I thought the whole package was pretty damn good. After performance cars of one type or another (at the time) it was too big a change for me. Certainly NOT crap tho'. P.G. |
Well, i've driven a nw 3.7 and i thought it was wicked. Goes really well (comparatively), doesn't handle too bad (comparatively), and the interior's quite nice (comparatively).
Just a pity that over the 10 mile test route it used about a quarter of a tank of peccy... |
I didn't realise that the tank was that small ;)
We've averaged 15mpg in a 4.7 Grand - which is only slightly worse than my STi :( |
Chaps
Thanks for your input I gonna try one next week Paul |
