Runs terrible when cold

Hi All, I have had this problem since I bought this car around a year ago, but I really need to fix it as it is driving me up the wall! Basically whenever my car is started from cold it runs like an absolute bag of sh**e and is nearly undriveable until it is warm. It runs VERY rich (black smoke sometimes) and can barely rev it due to spluttering etc... but if you rev it to around 3,500 revs and the turbo begins to spool etc it runs 100x smoother, but then back down low an it will splutter and bog out etc… Any ideas? It’s a Link G3 ecu on a V6 impreza and has no MAF and no front Oxygen sensor (Which were my first go to’s). I have access to the map on my PC so if anyone is knowledgeable in that area I can send screenshots or send a copy of the MAP for you to look at etc. any help massively appreciated.

Check your CTS.

Hi, by CTS do you mean Coolant temperature sensor? or Charge temperature sensor?

Coolant temperature sensor

Is there a way to check these or is it a case of just replacing?

You can check the resistance but it would be easier to replace. You have a Link ecu you can check your readings with it.

OK cool, I will plug the ECU in and take a look, far from an expert with the whole ECU side of things.

Try cleaning the idle control valve to see if that improves things at all. I had similar issues and the car runs like a dream after removing and cleaning the ICV. Quick ish job too
