Looking for a Caterham/Westfield for the summer and came accross the Tiger Super 6, are they any good or a poor substitute.

If I remember right oe of these babies was on 5th Gear....

They are a monster...... Twin engined cateram with twin gear boxes... :D :D controlled by a split gear stick... :D

Mental fun..... go buy one! :D

Nope, that's a Tiger Z100. There's also a 4WD version now (one engine drives the front wheels, the other drives the back). Tiger Super Six is just a Caterham Super Seven copy.

Same sort of thing, but even cheaper than a westfield, they are generally made of bits from the cheaper end of the market, the few that I have seen second hand have been very cheap, so I'd watch as they appear to depreciate, so if you plan on selling it again at the end of summer it may be more difficult to get rid of. But if you can find a well built one you will enjoy it. There is a yahoo group (or similar) for them, if you want I can check see if I still have the e-mail I got sent when I was looking at them.

As a side note, none of these sort of cars are particularly reliable, so ideally you need some mechanical knowledge, or a mate who does, for when things break / stop working / fall off.

Thanks for the info.

I am also looking at the option of building a Locost with a bike engine, it may be a better alternative ??

carl 18 June 2002 09:55 AM

Locosts constantly win the 750MC bike-engined championships. I think Locost themselves went into liquidation, and Locosts are made of very small bits (like you have to weld bits of angle iron together), unlike Caterhams and Westfields which are made of bigger bits. MK Engineering are well-respected for building Locosts -- I know they do pre-built, but I think they may do a 'bigger bits' kit Westfield/Caterham stylee.

You're right Carl, also Stuart Taylor motorsport do a kit.

dogmaul 19 June 2002 09:06 AM

i have some nice info on lots of kits if you want it send me an e-mail and i will send you a copy

There is an excellent book that I have that walks you through creating your own locost I will post details tommorow but it looks to be a very good book, ive had it for months and am only now getting round to getting stuff sorted to build it.

Im going to put a well maintained, one lady owner fiesta rs turbo engine in mine. Should go quite well :) Not sure how im gonna sort out the EFI engine stuff but hey its mostly for fun this thing.

I think you're referring to 'How to Build Your Own Sports Car for £250' by Ron Champion.

DAZ 4 20 June 2002 12:01 PM

I think the Ron Champion book is a bit out of date as far as costs go ;) Nearer £2500 I think :)

carl 20 June 2002 12:03 PM

Depends how much of the donor car you use, and how 'componentized' you're prepared to go (like building it out of scrap steel tubes).
