Anyone fitted an RCM catchcan? WHERE does it go?

Hi guys

Just got an rcm catch can for my bug wrx.

Where’s it meant to go?
Can it fit over by passenger side turret if the a/c is still fitted to the car?
If not it’s going back for a refund

thanks

The passengers side strut tower or the bulkhead are the usual places. I had the same issue on my newage wrx wagon, and in the end got so frustrated I had a strop and sold it. I suspect the wrx is missing some holes that the sti has.
So you don't fancy drilling any new holes, then I'd suggest getting a bracket made up. It only needs to hold it in place so doesn't need to be that strong.

Ok thanks.

I could really do with seeing someone’s pics of one fitted whilst keeping a/c in place

It's a mission to find somewhere tidy,
the passange strut tower has couple bolt holes so your best making a bracket of one of these.
I ditched the air con so was easier to get it but still tight if your running fairly stock set up.
Its a very worth while mod tho so pursue it though. I was shocked how much oil was inside my bugs inlet on a stock car so ones tunned must be fair chunk more.

My catch can is mounted near the passenger side of the bulkhead. It's a bit of a squeeze and the hoses look like spaghetti but it's in there. Will see if I have any pics, though it's hard to actually see it!

Will I end up having to do away with a/c?

SouthWalesSam 27 November 2018 08:23 PM

No.
I still have mine.

Is yours RCM though?

Yeah I see it is. Just arrived or fitted it now?

cubbs 27 November 2018 08:27 PM

Perfect? Is it fixed to chassis? By the two drilled holes in can?

SouthWalesSam 27 November 2018 08:51 PM

Yes, it half sits on, and is bolted to, the chassis rail and is secured via the two bolt holes.

Mine is behind the washer bottle, on the side of the shock housing (not the bulkhead). UK blob wagon in case that makes a difference

Am I right in thinking a catch can catches the oil that would surge as you go around a corner?

does it then go back into the engine?

LewisScoob 28 November 2018 01:44 PM

Catch cans return oil vapour from the crank case and heads. Most commonly its stored in the can and emptied as and when required. In some cases the can has a line to return the breathed oil to sump.

This is a good thread on the subject:

Got mine fitted last night. What a prick of a job. Ended up bodging a bracket and bolting that to the bottom of can. Had to use my impact driver and a self drilling roofing screw to fix to chassis. All done from underneath car on my back.

Thanks for your help everyone
