hawk sti coilovers

i guess this has been done to death but im still gonna ask.....

which are the best coilovers for a hawk sti fast road car below £1k, car is on 18" xxr with 225/40/18

bc
tein
meister r

anything else?

dont really wanna spend more than £1k to be honest as i would like to buy some whiteline gear aswell

domino46 13 December 2017 06:40 AM

just from my experience ,, BC are good value but all my sets have corroded very quickly and don't seem to last the text of time very well ,, iv had better results with tein as they didnt corrode like the bc ones did and still looked like New Years after buying them

yeah thats the general feeling im getting towards bc, teins are only slightly more expensive so will consider them. do the teins offer the pillow-ball top mounts for camber adjustment?

yeah I believe so , one thing I do really like about the teins is the edfc as you can control things from inside the car ,,,, they now do a new one that will ajust things via G sensors so will Harden only whats needed when cornering ,, not sure how well it would work but look a good gadget lol ,, I love gadgets lol

one thing I forgot to say ,, the hawk has headlight adjusters so this can cause a problem when lowering , you need to work out a way of keeping the adjuster in the same place when lowered

the shreksta 13 December 2017 09:24 AM

and how would i do that?

had mine at standard ride hight so wasn't really a problem for me , when I spoke to bob rawle about it I'm sure he said chevron sorted it out for him so might be worth giving them a bell :thumb:

Surely that when the car is lowered it's just like having 4 people in it so the headlights would auto adjust then? My car at the moment is very low and I have no problems or warning lights

dont think you get any warning lights it just goes out of its range if you go too low

the shreksta 15 December 2017 10:18 AM

so i think i will try the teins and see how i get on and if needed i can add the edfc in the future

BrownPantsRacing 15 December 2017 11:36 AM

The headlight adjusters never caused me a problem when I lowered my hawkeye. It generally gets lowered front & back so it sorts itself out. Didn't even need to adjust my headlights, was fine for every MOT after that too.

Yeah mine seems fine and it is really low at the minute. Something to look out for though as a potential issue I guess

What sort of spring rate would be ideal for a fast road car? Running 225/40/18

Tidgy 16 December 2017 11:20 PM

for a road car i wouldnt bother with coilovers at all tbh

the shreksta 18 December 2017 10:47 AM

any ideas on spring rates for a fast road car?

Tidgy 18 December 2017 12:52 PM

ive got pedders on mine and they are 209.9F 213.6R, but its the ezifit setup

BrownPantsRacing 18 December 2017 04:53 PM

You can't compare spring rates between struts and coilovers, they are very different.

But if we're talking coilovers then BCs and MeisterR are both 6kg front & 5kg rear.

Pedders coilovers are harder at 8kg on the front & 6kg on the rear.

thanks buddy, i did consider the pedders ez-fit but in my opinion they dont lower it enough for my liking.

considering a new set of hsd mono-pro at the minute

BrownPantsRacing 18 December 2017 05:33 PM

I could be wrong, but I think the HSD coilovers are also 8kg and 6kg as per the pedders units.

IMO, that's ok for a track car, but too much for a road car. But everyone likes their cars differently and I'm sure some will prefer this.

was looking at the has website and you can change the spring rates for no extra cost

the shreksta 18 December 2017 06:24 PM

am i missing something here?

the main ad says for gdb impreza with 5x114.3 but in the description it says 5x100...............

https://www.hsdcoilovers.com/subaru-...4-3-57887.html

Tidgy 18 December 2017 07:13 PM

wrx is 5x100

read the actual line of what your buying, looks like they just copied and pasted the description from the wrx version and forgot to edit it
