2010 Subaru 'Saloon' WRX STI 2.5
Does this model and its engine fall into the same engines used in the WRX STI hatch - prone engine failure? Or did they change it for the saloon model?

No nothing has changed. Subaru refuse to admit there are well documented problems so continue to use the same faulty parts in all models from 2006 onwards. Few minor changes, but nothing to rectify the issues.
That said, I've owned 2.5 engine Subaru's for the last 10 years now and I really wouldn't be too worried about it. They are great cars to drive daily and I've had no problems at all. Keep it serviced, well maintained, get it mapped properly to get rid of the Subaru map and just enjoy it. |

Mine's on 116k and still going strong. My old Hawkeye STI was on 125k when I sold it. Both standard engine-wise.

Anyone had theirs mapped without a decat downpipe? I have 3" catback Invidia system and wondering whether it is worth decatting?

Yep. Fitted a 200 cel sports cat downpipe to my current 2.5 Foz STI and my previous 2.5 Hawk WRX. Both performed well. Both around the 350bhp mark and great road cars. No point going full decat IMO until your chasing big numbers.

You'd like to think Prodrives maps were good though wouldn't you? In short, not really no. Personally I wouldn't trust a performance map that wasn't written specifically for the car it was meant for. The Prodrive map is a one size fits all map increasing timing and risks without knowing what engine it's running on. If I bought a car with a Prodrive map I'd have it re-mapped straight away IMO. |
