Cambelt gone GB270 damage?
3 Attachment(s)
Cambelt shredded but not completely snapped, happened at low speed pulling into petrol station. Photographs hopefully attached although this is my first attempt!
Likely damage? Worth putting a belt on and see as per some posts? Likely cost to repair or cheaper to plonk a new engine in? Also anyone Sussex borders decent rate £ to do the job? |
To be fair, even though it's shredded, if it held together and continued to turn the cams until you realised and switched off, you might have got lucky mate.

Ha ha thanks for that and I do hope so not the climate for big bills!!
How would I best go about checking? Stick a new belt on and try and turn over by hand? Any help appreciated and thanks Peedee. |
You could be lucky here, how did you notice it was happening?
I would stick a new belt on and see what happens, it's a mess but looks mostly intact. |
Check the timing marks with the old belt on, if they are still lined up you may be in luck.

But why did it shred.
|
Remove the plugs and turn it over by hand if all goes well then line up the timing marks and fit a new belt. I got a set of Sealey locking tools when I did my belt.

Check the idler pulleys and water pump for free rotation. For the cost it would be worth changing them to be on the safe side.

Evening, thanks for the replies and advice. Sorry if sounding like a numpty but would you remove the plugs first and turn over with the remains of the belt or fit a new one before moving?
Agree re idler pulleys and water pimp but as above after I have moved by hand or with replacement belt? Wouldn't want to waste a lot of money on those extra parts if it's gone to pot or is that the risk I have to take? Sorry and thanks. Ps who does the best kit quality/£? |
