No guts till 3500rpm

Now it's 7 years since my last Impreza and I've had an RS Focus 2010 and now got a new S3 but this 2003 STI does pic up very well until I get it in the rev ranged above 3500rpm!!!

I don't seem to remember it being like that!!??A
any offers guys?
Its a big standard car with 62k on.

Sounds about right. Once on the hoof you don't go anywhere near that low in revs. Just drop it an extra cog or 2 when you need to.

maybe it's because the RS and the S3 just launch off as they are newer spec cars.

saved me a trip to the local Subaru pocket cleaners

Classic picks up about 3,000 revs. But the sure V35 picks up better than that.

A simple remap by a decent tuner will get it spooling a fair bit earlier, will be a different animal :thumb:

Is that 3500 rpm on full boost or just coming onto boost?

stevehf2 04 May 2017 11:04 PM

Just when I put my foot down!
the only why it kicks in to life is when I have it revved up around 3-3500rpm
I was thinking maybe vac pipe leak or something?

Nah it's about right for a standard car. Always worth getting a new car in the sun to make sure all is ok, but doesn't sound like anything amiss

Ah another one sucked in by the hype... :freak3:

Standard STI's are rubbish mate, which is why everyone changes so much on them, remap is only going to make it spool up about 200rpm sooner, so after you've shelled out about £2k to change the turbo, remap and a few ancillaries... you'll still need to sort the handling, so get saving for a set of Bilstines, bushes... rollbars etc, etc... :lol1:

Should of bought a WRX if you wanted get up and go. :D :p
