We know the IMPREZA is an iconic car not JUST the 22B. None of you guys know WHY 22Bs command silly prices. I guess I could buy one, resell by plucking a figure out of the air and some mope will buy it 'bcoz its a 22b innit?' :D

Thebeakster 21 March 2017 07:56 AM

The old car market is a strange thing. Some cars are worth far more than they should be. Mk1 escorts are crap but now worth loads. Vw campers are terrible but get a mint early one and it's getting on for 50k.
People who were teenagers in in the 90's are the ones who now have the money to buy the cars that they dreamed of at the time and the Impreza was the king of the rally world and the street then. The 22b is the ultimate classic Impreza and is very limited in numbers so will command a high price.
Yes the price for this one (150k in total) seems excessive but is justified by its history and mileage and will only help drive the price of 22bs and other imprezas, mainly 2 doors at first but then others like ra's rb5's etc up.

rossyboy 21 March 2017 08:01 AM

Eh??

We know exactly why they command such high prices, because we understand the market for them.

I'll spell it out yet again - it's a bespoke model that's based on a WRC winning rally car. History shows these cars always appreciate massively in value. But the crucial part is the global appeal - not just one country.

It's got **** all to do with whether it's any better than any other car you want to compare it to.

Thing with items of value, is that it's a perceived value, at a particular moment or period of time.

It [can] transcend rationale.

The wide body 22B chassis never won a WRC Championship.

True, but the 22B is probably still the most iconic Subaru WRC car.

Why are they priced substantially higher than a type R, P1 or any other special/limited production model? The way some people harp on about the 22B, you'd think it was light years ahead of any other variant Subaru have produced. I just want to know WHY people think they're worth 100k+? I have nothing against people desiring to own one, just want to get to the bottom of why people think they're worth 5x more.

it call "market forces", supply and demand my friend :D

BrownPantsRacing 22 March 2017 01:31 PM

If he lost his licence he has all the time in the world to sell it. Seems a little suspect to me.

Matty81 22 March 2017 01:52 PM

It was actually just over £77k hammer price (11,280,000y) but still over £100k landed in UK if its coming over here..

rossyboy 13 May 2017 01:00 PM

I didn't actually look at the yen price, just the £ conversion on Japan Partner :thumb:

Actually it's called ''speculative asset price bubbles''

See also ''Tulip Bulbs'' and ''Railway Mania'' for other examples and how things pan out.:)
