VF28 To VF35 swop whats involved ?

Are they like for like ? guy selling a vf35 reckons the oil banjo in vf28 has a restrictor , the vf35 does not but just a matter of drilling out the vf28 restrictor . Please confirm if someone has done this upgrade before .

Brun 23 February 2017 05:57 PM

I wouldn't really consider going from a 28 to a 35 an upgrade!

jonspeed 23 February 2017 06:21 PM

Enlighten me ?

jonspeed 23 February 2017 06:37 PM

Vf28 on my sti version 5 is making 331bhp at 1.4 bar . Told a Vf35 good for 1.5 bar and capable of higher figures . As I said I am all ears as any research I have done suggests it's a good upgrade .

bustaMOVEs 23 February 2017 06:51 PM

They will both make similar figures so pointless in hope of an extra 20hp or so, up the boost on your 28 if anything to see if you can squeeze more

scoobyricht 23 February 2017 08:29 PM

the 28 is a ball/rolller bearing turbo, the 35 is a thrust/oil bearing turbo, thats the reason for the oil banjo difference. dont drill it out, just buy the proper one. as for upgrade.. the 28 is a brilliant turbo. early spool and good midrange, pretty much the same as the 35. i went from 28 to td05 16g then promptly to vf48 and im pretty happy at 350. v4 sti engined esl powered uk wagon :)

Great turbo the vf28. Spools well and i got 336bhp out of my old one with supporting mods. Cant see why you would want change unless its goosed?

jonspeed 24 February 2017 07:52 PM

@nortonscooby engine is coming out so figured may as well do it while it's out . Vf28 is fine but don't think it will make 350bhp and a Vf35 should ?

A vf35 won't nessaserly make 350 so don't get your hopes up, 330 is the general figure some make more but that's down to individual cars and mods.
Doesn't mean it WILL make 350.

You seem fixated on it, so do it and waste your money.

Spot on - mine only made 320 - but I was still happy with that. Given what the OP is already at, it seems a bit daft to replace with a vf35.....

nortonscooby 24 February 2017 08:43 PM

Plus the vf28 might make it a better road car with better spool and less lag. But as busta said your car your money etc :thumb:

Not a road car as such used for rallysport events here in Northern Ireland.

mine made 340 bhp on a bug sti. i did see a vf35 make 360 once but it was on a 2.5 gb270 hawkeye and was an exceptional result rather than the norm.

jonspeed 25 February 2017 03:32 PM

Yes mate that's me above . Vf28 in use .

nortonscooby 25 February 2017 04:12 PM
