Holy MPG!

Drove about 150 miles the other day and managed 31mpg in my 336bhp 2005 STi! For some reason this is an absolute miracle, as I never expected to see 31mpg. I know motorway miles is different, but for once I sat at 70mph rather than 80 and it improved the mpg drastically. I didn't think I'd see the day of 30mpg plus haha..

Anyone else got over 30mpg before?

RedScoob 21 January 2017 10:04 PM

Not in my newage, but the classic got 30mpg average, even though it had more power... To be honest, I don't see why people don't equate economy with these motors... Sure they'll drop into single figures if you rag them, but what car won't?

Chill mate, I'm just saying I found it funny how I managed to actually get decent MPG for once. I don't care that I don't get good MPG, but I just never thought I would see the 30s.

Beastie 21 January 2017 11:53 PM

I can get 36mpg in my 340 hp 2013 sti saloon whilst in sports sharp.

You must have an updated rear arb 😆

You what

Jonny Park 22 January 2017 01:52 AM

Was taking the p1ss out of a guy who used to be on here that claimed his car was better on fuel because of his arb. Can't remember his name, was Matt something I think.
How did you calculate your mpg did you brim the tank?

hedgecutter 22 January 2017 06:19 AM

Regularly used to get 300+ miles from a tank full to warning light on my 280 hp 05 wagon, best was 360 miles. Don't get much more than 220 miles in my 09 spec C.

Wull 22 January 2017 08:43 AM

I'm usually around the 28-30mpg mark with a mixture of driving which I'm pleased with. Much less power than you in my wrx wagon currently @ 246bhp & 270 ft-lbs of torque.

Shhhhhush !!!!!
aRSe MATT is still lurking about with his muddy tyres :lol1::lol1::lol1:

fpan 22 January 2017 09:15 AM

Averaged 36mpg in my FSTi in a 200 motorway journey doing between 50-80mph pretending there is an egg between the throttle pedal and my foot trying not to break it.
I only did this exercise once. The next day I did around 15mpg in a trackday, that was slightly more fun ;)

I remember him Tw@t not Matt ;)

Anyhow, I always look at my Sti with regret considering the WRX can do 45mpg and can get you to where you're going MUCH FASTER :lol1:

15mpg on a track day?

You must drive like a granny.... I average 4-6 mpg on track taking it easy. At one point we were down to 1.7mpg...

Probably only average 12 out on the road.

ditchmyster 22 January 2017 10:20 AM

Regularly averaged 28mpg in my blob wagon ppp day to day and 36mpg on my regular 1300mile trip across Europe @ a steady 70/80mph, think I could have got more if I just stuck to 70mph but I'm either trying to make the ferry or just wanting the drive to be over. I stick to the speed limit on motorways as the fines are expensive and a load of hassle that just costs time and money I'd rather spend on other things.

There's no reason not to want to get some reasonable mpg when just going about your daily business and then watch it drop by 10/15mpg when having a bit of fun, goes with the territory.

BurningSky 22 January 2017 02:29 PM

I think I manage to average about 24mpg when I commute in my 07 spec c, but I'm not trying to be economical. Meant having to fill up every 3 days! Haha

jaygsi 22 January 2017 02:33 PM

Use to get 35mpg on my none turbo, my classic is about 28mpg i think.

john_d 22 January 2017 02:54 PM

get low to mid 30-s regularly

Yeah, get 33 town driving, 45+ motorways.

Although don't own an Impreza any more.

Brun 22 January 2017 06:26 PM

Are all of these figures calculated or off a trip computer?

domino46 22 January 2017 06:49 PM

I can get high 20s from my 530bhp hatch but can easily get into single figures when my right foot is heavy

Probably only average 12 out on the road.

That included some normal road driving , I can't remember could be around 11mpg, it was a while ago..

1.7?! You must have seen the petrol gauge moving.

12mpg on the road?! The gas pedal isn't an ON/OFF switch ;)

Yeah I filled it to the tank, and then drove 150 miles and filled up. What I filled up is how many litres I used, and then I found an MPG calculator online.

SubieJack 22 January 2017 11:49 PM

Pretty promising that the WRX is good on MPG. I know you don't buy these cars for economy, but why not have a car that's as fun as the scoob, but also does good fuel when going about your daily chore eh?

I do about 170ish miles a week in my STi and average about 22mpg :D I reckon I could easily do better, but it's so addicting to just get on boost every time I drive it. I feel as though if I don't drive it properly it's a waste! I obviously keep within the limits of the law..

+1

Usually people give it the oh well you don't buy cars like this to get high mpg and then show off how low their mpg is like people will be impressed or something. But filling up with fuel no matter how much you love your car is a bloody chore.

Some people only have 1 car so getting decent mpg is a must when on a run and then when allowed you can get lower mpg figures.

Agreed. If I was straight up like, "these cars are crap, the fuel economy is sh1te" then it would then be pointless to buy the car :lol1:

Rubbish. Couldn't give a monkies what fuel it uses. Smiles per mile is what it is all about....

No you are 100% right, there is no switch it is just ON! No point building a car like this to not use it. Every time I go out it is to beat it's head in....

bioforger 23 January 2017 02:40 PM

i get 60mpg regularly in my 1230bhp '14 STi.
