is a 2005 blobeye wrx fast??

Looking at buying one but was shocked when i found out it was only 225hp, is this right? ive owned a gto twin turbo, and also a 280bhp evo 4 and just wondering if someone can tell me how the wrx holds up? also looking at reflashing does anyone use accessport?

Many thanks

Why?
Cock waving?
Pub stats?
Traffic light GP?

BoozyDave 12 August 2016 11:08 PM

A standard wrx is not fast by todays standards. 20 years ago a Sierra cossie was the benchmark at 221bhp (also Lancia Integral) and was faster than most cars, but...

Things have moved on and once moving an average diesel will keep up with a wrx or an sti.

But a modified wrx can be 350bhp and be a fast car. There are a lot of cars that are faster though :thumb:

If you want a fast car, buy an atom or GTR :thumb:

Maybe just because he wants to?
Welcome to snet & prepare yourself for more brilliantly unhelpful comments/abuse.

I think trooper has been here a few years and seen more than most :thumb:

sorry, should of elaborated more, how does it stand up to say an evo 6 or a twin turbo gto? just wanting a bench mark, also is the accessport a way to go to be at 260-270ish bhp?

I'd say yes, it is fast. Off the line and on decent sweeping roads it's a great car to drive.

Of course there are much faster, especially with the new hot hatches but I'd still say it's a quick car in the right hands.

I had no problem keeping up with a lotus Elise 111r and gt86. Even posted quicker lap-times round a circuit. Neither of those are remarkably quick but no slouches...

If you can, stretch to an STi, much more pleasing compared with your gto and evo.

MASS1 13 August 2016 06:25 PM

If you are looking at WRX, might be best to seek one out with the Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP), see if you can get a run in one and make up your own mind if they are quick enough. A healthy PPP version has the same power as a std STi at 261 but it has slightly more torque.

No wrx is fast

scoobyboy1 13 August 2016 08:48 PM

Standard there not fast at all, a newage WRX with 225bhp would probably be on par with a Renault Clio 182 Cup in a straight line and to be honest I dont think I would fancy it chances in the corners either.:(

But like most turbo cars how fast depends on how much you want to spend on modifying it, Do you really want to spend £££££ on a WRX only to regret not buying a STi in the first place, its not all about how much bhp you can push out of the WRX, but its also how reliable it can be.:Suspiciou

400bhp WRX on standard engine & gearbox will be on its limits, 400bhp on a STi and the gearbox/engine will last a lot longer then the WRX.:thumb:

In comparison you might want to look at an STi which has more power out the box than a WRX, however Both cars very capable

A 330 Diesel bmw with a map and DPF removed will do 300 BHP and a staggering 710NM
http://www.more-bhp.com/project_bmw_330d.html

Both cars you have owned EVO ( 280 bhp ) + GTO (290 bhp ) comparing to a WRX you might be disappointed.

My advice would be to get a drive in both a WRX and an STi and see what meets with your expectations.

Gear Head 14 August 2016 07:23 PM

WRX's are fast cars. Any car that can do 0-60mph in under 6 seconds is fast. Plus with the 4wd, in our crappy climate, you can use the power more of the time over a modern 2wd hot hatch.

All the people saying that they are not fast are just sti owners waving their targets about. I have classic sti's, UK turbos, Newage wrx and as of today, a wide track sti blob. Of course the sti is a faster car than a wrx but that doesn't make the sti slow.

b20sx 14 August 2016 07:54 PM

I recently sold a wrx blobeye and purchased a type r impreza instead.

The blobeye wrx was nice and was tuned and modded just right. I just found it quite plain and couldn't settle with it.

I much prefer the sti type r and it's a classic as well.

My opinion is each to there own. As said above try and have a go in a wrx and an sti. A wrx blobeye wont be as costly and I fell lucky with mine as it was club owned and had been well maintained! If you can find a well tuned wrx blobeye that has history to back it up your laughing! The blobeye I had was 340bhp mapped and went well!

jayallen 14 August 2016 08:12 PM

is a 2005 blobeye wrx fast? No it's not.

Ginola 14 August 2016 08:28 PM

Access port is a Cobb thing, and designed around the American market, USDM it is not really used this side of the pond,

WRX is not comparable to an evo, an STI is.

veerinder9 14 August 2016 09:19 PM

Ignore what everyone say. A wrx is earth shattering fast. Will destroy every car on road especially an sti. U get better mpg 0-60 is quicker evrything is better on a wrx :)

You are sooooooo funny!
NOT :hjtwofing

up to 350bhp the wrx is faster than the sti with the same power. the sti weighs more with the 6 speed and can't get to 60 in second, so needs an extra gear change to get there FACT :thumb:

If you want more than 350bhp, but less than 500bhp, get an sti.

If you want more than 500bhp, buy the cheapest, clean car you can find, and then upgrade every part. If you pay the sti prices and then you will have to upgrade most parts anyway - block, turbo, brembos, ARB's, intercooler, injectors, ecu

Not sure if serious....

BoozyDave 14 August 2016 10:44 PM

If you want a subaru with 330-350bhp, the cheapest way is to buy a newage wrx and mod it :thumb:

Don't put me in the same catagory as aRSe Matt :thumb:

BoozyDave 14 August 2016 10:55 PM

The wrx does have its plus points as a road car with below 350bhp :thumb:

If you want to use it on track, or want more than 350bhp, the sti is the one to choose :thumb:

I wouldn't fancy a 350bhp wrx on a track with standard brakes though :lol1:

In standard guise, a WRX has a claimed 0-60 of 5.7 seconds. However, with its AWD, it is better suited to this benchmark sprint than, say, 30-70 mph. Nonetheless, a standard WRX is still faster than the average road car, but as has already been said, is not as fast as the recent wave of hot hatches, nor a lot of modern German saloons for that matter. But then again, a Blob WRX is up to 13 years old now.

A decat and remap will unleash an additional 50-70 bhp, which obviously makes the WRX a different proposition. My Audi TTRS has 340 bhp, a claimed 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, and a superior power-to-weight ratio than a pre-facelift A45 AMG. Now, obviously it's hard to compare due to differences in power delivery and the sensation of speed, but I can assure you there is very, very little difference in performance between my TTRS and my old WRX, which was running circa 300 bhp. Using any benchmark - 0-60, 30-70, 1/4 mile - I really wouldn't want to bet on which car would win in a race. The funny thing is, nobody would even try to claim a TTRS isn't a fast car, but because this is Scoobynet and some people think it's clever to mock the WRX, there will always be some who will try to argue that even a tuned WRX isn't fast.

In summary, a standard WRX isn't especially fast, but is by no means slow. A WRX with a decat and remap (280bhp+) is a quick car. A WRX tuned to the safe limit of its engine/gearbox (350 bhp) will have a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 250 bhp/tonne and would be faster than probably 97-98% of the cars on UK roads.

Anyone who says no WRX is fast is an idiot... but there's plenty of those on here! :D
