Evo 6 or sti Ra

I'm looking at builing a cheap track car and don't know wether to go down the evo route. I only want a sensible 500bhp and I'm not bothered if the car looks like a piece of crap. I know what to do with subarus but is it time to change to an evo? Both versions come in between £6-8k on the models I'm looking at.

But which would be the cheapest best option for a sprint car ?

banny sti 22 July 2016 08:49 PM

Evo

stevebt 22 July 2016 08:51 PM

It was the way I was leaning :)

My missus face dropped when I showed her another car I would buy :). I think she is scared it will be my only car but to be honest I can't suffer just an evo or Subaru as an only car :)

To get an RA to 500bhp will cost twice what it would to get an Evo 6 to the same power.

domino46 23 July 2016 06:45 AM

I have a very clean and original 99 RA 555 Wrc limited that I'm considering selling (still not sure really) , even has the original factory fitted 22b front bumper

Not when you have loads of Subaru parts in your garage :)

scoobyboy1 23 July 2016 11:10 AM

As a sprint/track car I would say the Evo, Power levels aside the Evo is a much better handling car and will need less spent on it to get it to go round corners faster then the Subaru, Having owned 400bhp Evo 6 and classic STi's I would say in a straight line the Subaru would be much quicker but a track car is not about straight lines so my personal choice would be the Evo for the track!!!:thumb:

I've owned both an STI RA and an Evo 5 running similar power. The Evo 5 was the superior car in terms of the way it handled and felt quicker due to the way it spooled....The Evo looks rock'ard too!:D

sti-chris 13 August 2016 12:34 AM

in all honestly having owned a 340bhp sti and a 410bhp Evo 8 if its for track use the Evo every time.

Its running MOT'd just need final mapping off Andy a little wiring tweek off john Stevenson and its good to go, but finding the spare time to get these things done is very hard as work has gone manic as they say got to make hay whilst the sun shines LOL if I can get the car sorted this month its all booked in for the 22B sprint at croft .

stevebt 14 August 2016 10:22 PM

I'm going to Croft so I will see you there. My EVO build on paper is getting out of control as I'm now getting a tubular subframe and carbon prop :)
