Brand new WRX is a Dud!!

Guys just spent my hard earned on a bugeye WRX. second day of owning the car it has developed a knock!!. Love the car, its a one owner low miles in the spec that i was looking for. I purchased it from a dealer miles away from where I live. I have no idea what to do or what my rights are. Any suggestions or advice for a very disapointed scoobynet member:cry:

lordharding 26 March 2016 08:25 PM

Take it back
Money back or new engine will be 2/3/4 k
Dealer will have to sort out as warrenty

banjogt 26 March 2016 08:27 PM

Trouble is I live over 4.5hrs away from the trader I bought it off. I just want a bit of advice of where I stand and what my rights are?

Call the dealer and explain the situation. If you don't like their response then look further into your rights.

Who did you buy it from.......there's a few names where you would be best not to waste fuel money

scoobypaul_temp 26 March 2016 08:54 PM

2nd day of ownership? Speak to the dealer first and see what they say. Doesn't matter if they are 8 hours away from you, unless you are happy spunking all that cash down the drain!

banjogt 26 March 2016 09:04 PM

Cheers guys, emailed dealer, hopefully they can't sort something out for me!!

Tidgy 26 March 2016 09:06 PM

they will give you your money back i expect and prob sell it on. not have enough margin over it to make it wirth them doing anythign about it

MattyB1983 26 March 2016 09:09 PM

Or, they'll take it back from you to repair it. Stick a £500 ebay engine in it and hope it lasts you the 3 months their warranty covers.

banjogt 26 March 2016 09:25 PM

Was thinking they may offer a replacement engine but I paid for a 46k car so anything other than a rebuild would effect the value of the car that I paid for

for any peace of mind needs to be done by a specialist who knows what their doing, which wont be cheap hence dealer wont want to do it. get yer money back and walk away if you can

Money back or repaired to decent standard dont let them fob you off!

they could get a rookie on the rebuild and cut corners etc. I think a refund would be your best offer. A bugeye on 46k is very low mileage what do the mot's say threw out the years?

banjogt 26 March 2016 11:34 PM

All mot's add up. This history of the car is fine, got all the paperwork to back it up

BoozyDave 26 March 2016 11:50 PM

did you pay cash or on a credit card?
You will be covered if you paid on CC, even if you only pay £100 on card and rest cash, the full amount is covered by your CC

Not fit for purpose, you can [by law] return for a full refund, or accept to have it repaired

It would be interesting to find out what caused the failure if it was an oil leak thats obviously the garages fault. you test drove it then drive it home 4 hours then in the morning it was knocking? Is there still oil in the car?

banjogt 27 March 2016 10:54 AM

Yes still oil in the car, nice and clean aswell

banjogt 27 March 2016 10:55 AM

Sounds very much like pistonslap but still there when warm??

pcressie 27 March 2016 01:59 PM

Post a video up. Someone on here should be able to tell you what it might be

jaygsi 27 March 2016 02:22 PM

New laws state you have 30 days warranty on any car from a dealer regardless of if sold with a warranty or not.

My mum wanted a car that was 2 hour drive away, i went and picked it up for her and car sprung a water leak few days later, also notice other faults. They said we had to get the car back to them and they would fix faults, ended up paying £120 i think for a transporter to take the car to them.

Thats piston slap mate not much to worry about, should clear when warm though.

banjogt 27 March 2016 03:54 PM

That's what I thought but it's still there when warm, not as bad though

dj219957 27 March 2016 03:56 PM

yes agree with above, that is piston slap IMO. a lot of subarus do it when cold and it can also be heard even when hot on mine and on my friends old one when warm. not the end of the world. I always hear it on mine when I pull into the garage or when I pull away.

jaygsi 27 March 2016 04:01 PM

I've had loads of Impreza's never had piston slap on any of them weirdly.

banjogt 27 March 2016 04:03 PM

Ive heard so much scare mongering saying that its bottom end rod knock etc that I immediately thought the worst. So you guys think its no more than slap yeah? Phewwww!!! Is there anything that can be done to mask the noise? Its got standard exhaust system at the moment so id imagine when I fit the Racebox from scoobyworld that would help mask it a tad!. Anything else i can do? specific oil for example?

The Pink Ninja 27 March 2016 04:49 PM

Hold the revs at 3.5-4K rpm....you'll hear it if it is knocking, that does sound like a light knock to me though

Scooby Stevo 27 March 2016 07:47 PM

i bought a vw touareg from a vw main dealer recently - they sold it knowing the head gasket was on its way on - nice people - sent car back for full refund.

p.s. don't use vw Lancaster - twossers!!!

Do you know what oil is in it? Changing it to thicker may help

banjogt 27 March 2016 07:50 PM

Do you think I'll have a problem returning as it was only an independent trader? Got a website and have been trading for 20 odd years. Can't belive that this has happened only a day after picking it up!!
