Suppose this is a follow on from the rally xhaust question. I have never seen a scoob bang flames out of the back (except the rally cars).. when downshifting or upshifting.

does anyone have a set up that does this?

snowcrash 10 June 2002 12:34 AM

i know a geezer round my way is getting a flame out kit just for that purpose...

DeerHunter 10 June 2002 12:38 AM

seen it on the 340 tuned evos from warrender the last time i went to aulton park with easytrack but not from a scoob,

gravelexpress 10 June 2002 12:43 AM

ah there must be a reason. cossies can do this as well. no doubt some teccy is will give us an answer and i bet its related to the subaru engine management system!!

RichiW 10 June 2002 12:46 AM

Not at all, its just that the Mitsubishi and Cosworth engines are better than Subaru chocolate ones :D

I've seen loads of Scoobs flame - especially on track. Full decat and a vent to atmos DV with a hot exhaust is normally all that is needed. I remember Dave T-S's old MY01 WRX flaming well at Donington a few months back.

The most impressive flames I've seen were from Mike Tuckwood's Cossie - but he was cheating with a sparkplug fixed in the exhaust ;)!!

so thats the secret a big bored de-cat exhaust system

and a BOV to atmosphere, (well i wouldnt have guessed)

what exhaust systems is everyone using to do this? I gather blitz is the favourite?

do you need the boost pushed up as well?

cheers (love the pic has anyone got a vid)

Floyd 10 June 2002 01:00 PM

Any de cat, not sure about the BOV whether it's needed or not as I've heard you don't need one.

Chris L BTW it's Rainbird not Tuckwood!

Full decat and bouncing off the rev limiter will achieve the same, lol!

Surely having flames out the back of the car is illegal! What will you flamers do if you lights up with an unmarked car behind you?

gravelexpress 10 June 2002 02:37 PM

....burn his ass

Missus was following me - thats how I know how many!!!!!

A replacement programmable ecu would help. I get flames if i want them. Launch control is good for them, so is anti-lag. Of course, you could just map the high rpm, low load areas rich, then you should get pops and flames whilst driving around at reasonable speeds if you run the engine higher up in the rev band without flooring it, so to speak.

A good exhaust system (HKS/Blitz) and a powerful dump valve (HKS sequential) should do it, but for the best results, get the car hot and run it on the richest petrol you can find, then accelarate like made and then slow down, useing the gears, big flames !
