The dyno graph posted shows that to be way too laggy, points to it being pretty poor quality, on the road that must be horrible to drive.
My old (non-billet) 20g spooled about 1500rpm earlier than that if I'm guessing right where the rpm is (seeing it's been cutoff the pic). The other thing is - look at where it achieves and holds that power - that wouldn't be usable at all, just nasty. What's the point in achieving 400bhp if it's only usable at 6000rpm and between 1500-6000rpm you have way less. One other thing - if you want 400 I'd be tempted to upgrade to at least a 290 or even 340lph fuel pump, a standard walbro (what you have) probably won't last long. Re the comments on US "wheel horse power" it seems like some of their dynos read way higher than ours, some of the claimed figures on the 2.5's out there are just outright ridiculous and has me thinking total BS. I'd take any of that with a pinch of salt :thumb: |
I've already spoken to Duncan about that 20g and the car it was on. He thinks it could be an issue with the car, in short.
My mapper has done a few Kinugawa 20g turbo set ups (albeit no twin scrolls) and all have performed well - spool and power. I have a 340lph fuel pump in the garage I may drop in depending on the duty this 255 registers during mapping, but in theory it should be OK for high 300s/low 400s. As for American dynos, I can't comment... |
having bought a kinugawa billet wheel i am also interested in the results
|
Ran a walbro 255 at 440bhp, Simon said it had head room for another 20bhp at that level. So unless the fuel pump is really old I would not change it.

I have a Kamak billet 20G with STS wheel as wel.. 8cm rear housing, and 1 bar A@3500rpm in 5th gear.. (6spd)... Spool is fine.. 1.6 bar @ 3800, the rest after that goes way to quick to read the gauges :luvlove:
They look, feel and sound like quality.. tough choice between the kamak or a blouch. |

Whilst mapping about 350hp/400Nm.. almost no ignition advance, due to having knock.
We later found a problem with the fuel pressure.. so no final numbers yet, but it already felt like a rocket. (and i was used to 270hp/380nm 20g's arent awake or making power under 1.2.. 1.6 bar is a good target for about 380 crank hp. |

I'm hoping to break the 400hp mark with mine to make it worthwhile, as I'm already at 365hp/365ftlbs at the crank. |
im still trying to get the remap finished on mine and have the same turbo. Need larger injectors to make the most of it and find a mapper that has time to finish it for me!
Interested to see how you get on with yours. Did you go for the billet wheel in yours? |

Great work but why did you take the engine out?
Changed the clutch and flywheel too. |
Did you upgrade your injectors as well as the obvious bits we can see in the pictures. When do you think it's going for mapping?

I had some ID1000s, but they didn't fit in the JDM manifold :( Kept the pinks in for now, going to have them reflowed at some point.

You need jdm specific rails from memory

Didn't know they are any different, what do you have to look out for when getting injectors for newage jdm?
when are you putting it on the rollers ???? |
If they don't have the TGV's like on the spec-c and it's a one piece manifold they use different rails can't comment on the JDM STi ;)
