2002 wrx sti for £2k, is it worth it....
 

Hi,

I just joined this forum as I'm looking for advice on a car I'm looking to purchase.

I've always had a soft spot for imprezas and have recently been offered a 2002 wrx sti prodrive model for £2k obviously this is very cheap reason being is a loss of compression on cylinder 4. As you can see from the picture there is damage to valve and cracking on the head.

From my initial research it looks like ej207 heads are quite hard to come by I'm wondering what other options I may have with out spending too much.

My budget to get the car back up and running is 4K on top of the 2k purchase price. I'm hoping the 4K will allow for a couple of performance modifications too.

Mattybr5 on here is breaking a bug STi, the long engine is up for sale for £1350, so that leaves you with plenty of money left, obviously if your doing the work yourself!!!

The cracking on the heads is pretty normal to be fair.

If the car is tidy with not too many miles then I'd say 2K is a good price.

It's done just under 100k other than the engine issue its mechanically and cosmetically sound

Looks like its run very lean and melted a valve id be finding out the problem before running a new engine in it

More likely valve clearances

+1 for tight valve clearance causing the burnt out valve. Check the turbo for any valve debris ingress too while its apart.
