Subaru sport saloon 97 interor upgrades

Hi guys new to this site, as I am in need of some advice as this site is for use enthusiasts i thought it would be a good shot. what i am asking is that i have just bought this car and i wanted to know what i can and cannot do to her.

what i am hoping to do is give her the most modern interior my model can have as everything i have is stock and you can see the wear and tear of it. what i want to know is ive seen some R reg models with better interiors example but the handbrake it has the extra storage compartment or even simple cup holders im after something like that.

would appreciate if you guys could guide me to making her looking alot better on the inside ive got the outside covered slowly haha

Welcome to the site, get some pics of the car up mate, always nice to see a new Scooby on the scene.
Have a look in the sale sections and spares/breaking. Think Matty from mb developments has some nice newage seats for sale atm,you should have no probs fitting bug and blobeye seats to your classic.

With a 97 car, you can fit front seats from any Impreza, but be aware that the later ones make your seat height feel too high:( Best to get some clean ones from something like a 99/00 STi.

Rear seats from any classic will fit, but must be from a saloon if yours is, or a wagon, if yours is.

Doorcards can ONLY come from cars with a similar dash, otherwise the dash/doorcard interface won't fit. Check what dash yours has: white dials means 97 on, black dials means pre-97, but post pics and we can be sure.

Centre glovebox: can be fitted from any late classic, get the whole lot in the gear lever cover. Easy job too.

HTH.

alcazar has covered it really. But you can get upgraded steering wheel aswell, momo one will fit.

As will later Scoob ones...my own classic has a 3-spoke one off a WR1.

Yours is the early dash, not easy to change as your speedo is mechanical, and only pre-97 doorcards will fit.

I'm not i agree with the only pre-97 doorcards will fit? Why is this?

As there the same size, surely it would just mean wiring up door cards differently?

Also, if you change the steering wheel to a later Momo one and want to keep the airbag, the clocksprings have different connectors - as I found out! Nothing that can't be adapted with a soldering iron though.

If you want the centre glovebox, you need to make sure you get one for a prefacelift. I think they were an optional extra on JDM cars only, so not very common. They're only the back half of the centre section though, so no fancy handbrake cover. The facelift ones are much more common and cover the handbrake, but won't fit a prefacelift.

There is one model classic - think it's the V3 (or whatever my MY97 Turbo 2000 equates to) that has a 'hybrid' speedo. The signal from the gearbox is a pulsed electronic signal - no mechanical cable, but the odometer is still a mechanical clock - not an LCD display. Everything earlier is completely mechanical and everything after completely electronic.

I think the V3 was the first year to have an airbag too, so from the pics the OP supplied, his may well be a V3 as mine had that same airbag steering wheel originally, but his speedo/rev counter are in the JDM configuration.

As far as doorcards are concerned, the interface where the dash meets the door changed. Completely different shape.

Pre97 cars won't easily fit onto post 97 cars.

Trust me...I did the research.

later dashboard is **** anyway, so no big deal

newage seats being higher is no issue unless you're particularly tall

My speedo is like this, looks like old mechanical one on the outside but is electronic. No mechanical cable from box. My car also has airbags. One of the last V3 I believe.
