SC42 or SC46 on a 2.1

Hi All,

I have seen the thread with a lot of info on the SC range, but from what I gather now, the SC guys are not on this forum now.

What SC turbo would be suited on a 2.1 Stroker aiming for about 440bhp - 450bhp?
SC42 or the SC46? I am guessing the SC42 will give me less lag, 46 more lag but more power in general?

Its a newage 2003 STi so I have AVCS.

Thanks

Your bhp target is more SC46 territory, but your right about the SC42 will spool quicker and would make for a very quick road car.SJ.

Thanks for the reply fella.

Its more of a road car with some santa pod action. Good amount of torque is what I am looking at.

I have seen some SC42 turbos make 440ish bhp.

SC42 would be the one to go for

Big sc turbo at low boost = good hp low LBFT
Small sc turbo at high boost = low hp good lbft

I wanted to run a huge SC turbo at moderate boost levels (400 bhp/340 lbft etc) on my WRX to protect the rods and gearbox from torque but the Clinic guys have told me going past 350bhp will still destroy the piston rings. :(

Eventually yes. Those turbos even at moderate boost levels still produce serious amounts of power and torque once spooled up,so yeah in my opinion SC have advised you correctly,on a STI 6 speed and block or a built engine 2.1 say...That would be a different story;).SJ.

I have a 2.3 with a sc46 billet rotated inlet. Thing doesn't hang around

If I were to do it again I would opt for a lateral turbo instead of the sc units.
Tested one recently on a 2.1 back to back

thinking about it, although I've never driven one I've heard rave reviews about the Engine Tuner turbos. Now those boys know a hell of a lot about the 2.1s
Their turbos are also not far off half the price of the lateral and sc units.
Give them a call

Im not running a 2.1 but am running a SC42 twin scroll on my 2.0 classic.
Not had it on a dyno yet but it's very impressive,it spools quite late(I should be able to tweak the map to get it working a little earlier),I'm hitting 1bar at 4300rpm and once the party has started its very fast to hit 1.6bar full boost at 5300rpm and holds it all the way to redline. Car pulls extreamly well indeed.
