That is a really nice example and glad it puts a smile on your face.

Thanks, so giving a top speed of roughly 168mph (at 7k rpms). I'm only asking because I picked up my 7rs the other week, and I'm struggling to understand the spec of it. The chassis code matches up with a 7rs, but it's got so many extras it's basically a gsr without some sound deadening, lousy interior and extra chassis welding, I think... At least the gearbox is a real RS one, as my top speed works out at just shy of 140mph.

Anyway, very nice car you've got there - love the engine spec and the front end :)

Mine is an RS2 on the logbook but still has folding mirrors, rear wiper etc.
It has an 8 dashboard as the old 7 was full of holes and a full ralliart interior( seats are very snug to say the least).
I would never thrash it top end, to expensive to fix if it breaks lol.
In 5th cruising at 30-40 It has absolutely zero power and takes an age to gain speed.
Thanks again for the nice comments:)

Ah ok, I think the RS2 is basically a GSR for export, unless I'm mistaken.

Mine's got these differences from a GSR:

* unpainted (well, painted black) door handles and wing mirrors
* different radio antenna (beesting at the a pillar) - must save 30g or so for the cable length
* terrible interior (think bottom of the range lancer)
* fully manual wing mirrors - i.e. no electric anything or even adjustment from the cabin. Basically, to adjust, you have to actually poke the glass with your finger

The original owner specced it up with electric windows and an AYC pump, which means that it sadly also has ABS (boo) but never mind.

All in all, i'm really happy having made the switch - they certainly drive better than impreza's (IMO). I think the 7 and later cars look better and a bit more grown up than the 6 and earlier as well. Don't think I could pull a 6 off anymore, being 36 with a kid, where-as the 7+ seems like the perfect family car at the moment :)

Mine's just running a remap and filter (1.5 bar boost), so only in the region of 340 bhp, but for my pootling about it's plenty. I think my next mod, if any, will be a different interior, but they seem to command good money if they're in decent nick, so might leave it as it is.

lovely motor

I think your right, it is basically a GSR.
The cons of owning an RS is loosing the little luxuries we take for granted, elecy mirrors etc.
I do have a soft spot for the 5's, almost bought one a few years ago but opted for the mk1 FRS instead but always had that evo itch that needed scratching.
I too have owned scoobies, 3 previously.
The latter two being classic STI's. I found the scoobies easier to drive than I do the evo at the minute, maybe it's the evo's twin plate clutch? the evo is more aggressive, more of an experience, certainly turns more heads, but I too am very happy with my purchase.
Also the evo can be a rare sight on the roads nowadays were as scoobies are everywhere. I'm still a scooby lover though and may again own another.
Fuel consumption and servicing roughly the same.
Plenty of space for my 3 children, boot is a fair size and being 40 now it does seem a more grown up car for me lol the wife can't wait for me to actually grow up lol
Any pics of yours?

I went to the dark side too,got a IX FQ300.changed the exhaust, remap, some other bits, cost about £1600 and got 400/392,no disrespect but you would never get an STi up to that for the same money.

The handling is far better an a STi too.My old 05 STi had every suspension mod fitted when I sold it,My Evo had standard suspension when I bought it and it was better than my STi.I now got Eibach lowering springs and it's even better.

It's not all good mind, the 6sp box is weak,so the transfer box, luckily enough for me the pervious owner replaced the Ayc pump, not as expensive as it was but still not cheap.Worse thing and it worries me a lot is RUST!! My God to they rust,I was at my tuners place having some work done and was talking to another Evo owner and I took look under his 07 plate IX MR and you'd think its was twice its age and rust was awful,so I got mine under sealed and waxoiled the box sections.

Cracking looking 9, looks fantastic in black.
Iv heard that the 5speed boxes are much better than the 6 speed by a few people.
They do handle amazingly well I admit, the brembos are fantastic too.
Mine was stripped right back a couple years ago, all surface rust underneath and in the engine bay was rubbed down and treated then the car was resprayed.
Need to build a carport before the winter sets in......
Who's blue 4 in the back ground?

Looks lovely in white mate.
Well done:)
Scoobies and evo owners = mutual respect.
I even had a wave from a bug owner earlier lol

Truth is snet is more forgiving than the evo forum, MLR is full of pompous dweebs who look down on subarus. However on snet we can appreciate agood JDM machine and show respect, nice car you have there :)

Next door neighbour has red evo 5 on coilovers with 550 bhp, it did shake the house and rattle my garage doors but he's done something to the tuning to tone it down
