Coilovers with Standard Top Mounts?

I've came across a few coilovers with standard mounts fitted to them?

This mean they are cheap ****?

No, I had AST`s on standard top mounts to try and keep some compliance with the crap roads on my Blob Spec-C, Main difference is if you want to chuck some more camber on them its easy to do with adjustable top mounts as you wont be able to get the desired effect on the standard top mount, Coilovers with pillowball topmounts will creak and make more noise than standard OEM mounts ;)

Forgot to reply before on other thread, on some aftermarket top mounts they can knock so standard top mounts can be ok. Look to be standard on my ast's too

What's the to look out for on the AST's?

I've found a set but they look dirty and the Orange springs have started to flake etc....

Hi there

I would speak with Curtis@AST,he will be able to convert them for you if yours car have 5x114.3" as those coilovers are 5x100 from part number which I can see

Usually AST comes with OE/Group N top mounts

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

Main thing to look out for is damp or wet struts where the damper comes out of the body of the strut, This means the seals are shot and would need refurbishing, starts at £75+vat so budget around £120-150 per strut plus geo alignment after they have been re fitted ;)

Yeah I have newer springs on the front rear orange ones have flaked off completely, might take them all off and powder coat.

They came off a spec D hawk and they are 5x114.3 ?

I think I'll give these ones a miss, hopefully find a set of KW's or like wise

Or would I be better off with standard spec c shocks and tein springs????

Big thanks for the advice and help :thumb:

I'm going back to standard for a little while as a daily drive it can get a little tiresome I'll then make a decision to tidy up the ast's or not bother.

I see a fair few people moaning about coilovers so I was thinking to put springs on my standard set up ?

Sounds like I have the same dilemma as you mate... Springs or coilovers... I was thinking of staying with oe shocks and tein springs but then don't want the dreaded knock few years down the line.. Just can't seem to find enough info on which coilovers to go for as mine will be just a fast road car

If you can stretch to bilstein B14s about 1k maybe just under, they are great for fast road use, fud used to have them on his old red spec c. I would speak to chevron if you're serious about getting them :)

Hi there

If they come from SpecD then should be 5x114.3",yes I would agree with KW,have running them on the EP3 and we are love them, they're pretty good, but don't expect from them miracles,at the end any coilovers will be harsher and firmer than OE shocks and springs

Lot of depends why you want to go with coilovers,do you want to lower the car only due the looks or do you running wide wheels and they looks odd on stock ride height?

You need to decide what you want from the car, most of people buying the coilovers due the adjustability, but at the end they will only once adjust them and leave them like they're been set

Hard to recommend there, really depends on yours car and depends on future plans

If budget allows then custom valved coilovers are best way,but expect pay for this or you can speak with Turn in concept over in US

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

I like the idea of coilovers but on our roads I think they maybe over kill, don't really want a hard bouncing ride as sometimes I do have my little ones in.

The current set is nice balance but I'd like to go a little lower on the front,
I'm not to sure what to do is get some springs and wait until a set of kW etc comes up
Or not bother at all.
