Oil burning off
How long does it usually take oil that's been weeping onto header from the rocker gasket to burn off? The headers are heat wrapped too, so I presume this doesn't help?
I've had the d/s rocker gasket changed (genuine Subaru gasket) and there is a strong smell of burning oil, which I presume is from where its been weeping and also oil dripping down when it was changed? cheers https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif |
ive just had both sides done and its still leaking and going back tomorrow to be checked as there,s still weepage from the bolt hole seals :brickwall there was fresh oil on the manifold heat shield. check for any fresh leaks as they are notoriously hard to get right first time.

If the headers are wrapped, then it can take a couple of hard runs to burn it all off.
Be aware that the oil can catch fire so caution/extinguisher should be taken. Mick |
Oh sh!t that's not good! Do I just drive with caution for a few hundred miles as I don't have an extinguisher in the car?

Mine took day or two mate with wrapped headers

I did mine for the second time two weeks ago - damn half moon seals! It was smelling really badly of burnt oil after a warm up drive so I drove it carefully for another 10 miles or so (stopping every few miles to check it) and it stopped so must of burnt away. You need to shine a torch down the rocker cover and behind the air filter to really check it. I've got no leaks so far :)
