AREA 52 MOTORSPORT mapping

hi guys

I had my forester mapped (ECU TECK) by Scobby Clinic last month. mine had a TF035 andI wasnt really impressed with the output. so I changed it to a TD04L and rung them back to get quote for tweaking the map. i was quoted between £150-£500 + vat. yes, thats right. and that was after calling them constantly for 2 days and being promised call back. So all in all, customer service at Scooby Clinic....very poor...

spoke to a few other mappers and everyone says they will have to charge me for a full map as they did not do the original map. fair enough. but I dont want to pay full wack again, so I called around and AREA 52 said they will only charge me for a tweak and do dyno as well. very happy with their response so far. question is.....

anyone had remapping experience from them ? any thoughts?

cheers

No mapping, but they did help me right out a few months ago.

Jase, is the owner I believe.. very helpfull and friendly guy. :thumb:

preety sure area 52 have been around a long time and done some quality work on subarus

The Trooper 1815 27 February 2015 08:26 AM

How much are Area 52 quoting?

Would changing the turbo require a new map as the configuration is now very different? If that is the case then £150 - 500 is what it may well cost.

Hi,

Not trying to start a storm however I am a long standing customer of Scooby clinic and they have always seen me right and been transparent about how they operate, As do Area 52.

But I do have to question a few thing? Scooby Clinic charge £150.00 to £350.00 If the ecu has a licence on it. Does yours have a license ?

A simple tweak that I have had done is £ 150 and a remap with an existing licence is £ 350 mapper time and dyno time ect.

With my limited knowledge (Not a Boffin) don't license's lock out so that only that mapper can talk to it?

Thanks

ditchmyster 27 February 2015 10:36 AM

Sounds to me like the Clinic are just being honest as it really does depend on how long it takes re-dyno time, may well require a full mapping session in which case it will be £350 + £150 dyno time = up to £500+ vat.

Having spent money with both my personal choice is Pat and Scooby Clinic, but hey your money your choice.:thumb:

BrownPantsRacing 27 February 2015 10:42 AM

I was always told that so long as you have the ECUTEK license which you do, then any ecutek mapper should be able to adjust for a basic cost (i.e. £150 or whatever a tweek costs) and the cost of dyno time.

I do appreciate however that a full change of turbo might result in a full new map being required. But I still would have said the above prices are a little steep if he already has the license?

Are you sure mate, it sounds very out of character to me, who was it supposed to be talking to you?

Clinic have always bent over backwards to help me out, you sure you've not given them some verbal yourself?

Be honest, not having a dig by the way, but I know how things can sometimes get heated on both sides.

BrownPantsRacing 27 February 2015 11:12 AM

I agree, can't believe even for 1 minute that the call came from Scoobyclinic. Very odd.

Infact i even said is that a way for a professional to behave and he said he isn't a professional. I got nothing against them. I found them to be very helpful my self when i was there. Just not happy with what happened after. Very very surprised its turning out this way.

Are you serious ? I am sorry but a professional Garage call and verbally abuse a customer I highly doubt that.

There is not a bad bone in there body to do something like that. Are you sure it has not been miss interpreted ?

Really?!
I'm not calling you a liar but I find that hard to believe. However if someone from the Clinic has made the call then either Adam or Kev needs to clear this up. The Clinic are a professional garage not some plastic gangsters.

Ash 27 February 2015 11:50 AM

I agree with the above.

This is quite a serious allegation. It's in the realms of libel.

Or even slander.

Does this business record calls? Does the OP record calls? I know a lot of people do these days.

Tidgy 27 February 2015 12:07 PM

sounds like BS to me. If they did ring to talk to you i seriously doubt they would threaten you at all.

Libel is specifically defamation in printed/written form. Slander is spoken form.

Yes, you are right. For some reason I had it in my head that the OP was saying something bad (which he is), but of course it is written here on the forum. Leason over, back to business. :lol1:

Area 52 Motorsport. Are they any good?

There's plenty to be won and lost. You made a very serious allegation above regarding a very well known company. It's vital (in my opinion) we know what the truth is. If whomever you spoke to was from the clinic and threatened you they need naming and shaming. Furthermore a statement from Adam and Kev needs to be made distancing themselves from such idiocy.
If you're making this up then you need a civil action initiating against you forthwith.

STI Glenn 27 February 2015 01:18 PM

If you got license usually 250

Well Said Sir.

Serious allegation against well know and well respected business men. Have you given any thought to what you accusations may have on them as a business? Or even the employees that work there????????

I went to them for a map and called again for a remap. Wasnt happy with tje responce Nd the time. Expressed my dis satisfaction and i get a call saying all that.

Was it a landline number or mobile? When you say I had a call from them I'm assuming it was Scoobyclinic's public contact number. That being the case do you know who it was that allegedly threatened you? What was specifically said?
You said you've informed the police, what was their response and course of intended action?
I'm asking a lot of questions as I want to be clear on what has actually happened. In the same way that a such a reputable and well known company shouldn't act in the manner you've alleged, an individual cannot be allowed to make such a grave allegation without any substance.

boxerXT 27 February 2015 02:24 PM

I think you guys are right. requested a delete of posts coz I have no hard evidence hence cant prove and don't want to get into double trouble! . So, many apologies guys and the SCOOBYCLINIC.

Maz 27 February 2015 02:31 PM

Suffice to say you've emerged from this whole episode looking a total idiot and Scoobyclinic with their reputation and integrity intact. My own experience with Scoobyclinic has shown them to be professional and very customer orientated. They don't have the reputation they do without happy customers.

Jonnys3 27 February 2015 03:16 PM

I follow Scoobyclinic's facebook page quite a bit as I find some of the posts they put up to be very interesting, especially those which detail jobs where they have ended up repairing work which has been botched at cost by other "specialists". After reading many posts on their facebook page, it is apparent that Scoobyclinic do appear to have some envious competition, where the likes of which will try anything to give the clinic a bad name and detract business from them. I always take my car to the clinic and whilst hectic schedules can sometimes mean they aren't able to give you all of their time, they will never compromise attention to detail where your car is concerned: they are extremely professional and their work is second to none. The guys at Scoobyclinic would never call to abuse you, I can only suggest it would be some other party out to tarnish the reputation of Scoobyclinic.

Ash 27 February 2015 03:59 PM

Both Kev and Adam are personal friends of mine and I know for a fact that they would not react in that way neither be that disrespectful FACT.

Deanamoore 27 February 2015 04:53 PM

I have been up to Scoobyclinic today.they are building my next impreza for me.i have only ever had a fantastic service from kev an everybody there.kev will bend over backwards for you, even costing him an losing out if needs must for the car to be right an for him to be happy to send it out.there must be a mix up somewhere.i would of tried to speak to kev direct before you put it over a forum.area 52 should be very good they sponsor another forum I am on,there work seems only to get very good feed back.hope this helps
