JDM Impreza Spec C/R205 Hatch

Simple question

Can they be registered into the UK once imported from Japan?

scooby k 05 January 2015 05:18 PM

Yes, once it arrives here, the importing company registers the vehicle with DVLA which is my understanding.

Cannon Fodder 05 January 2015 05:27 PM

It might well need type approval report plus an SVA test at the local VOSA test centre (not your normal test centre), then the registration process can be started.

It might well be worth getting in touch with the DVLA to ask them the correct procedure Boyd. :)

Is sva just for cars under 10 years old

The Pink Ninja 05 January 2015 05:44 PM

Make sure you can sort a model report to be registered, IIRC ian at litchfield used to charge £1-£1.5k for the use of the model report to get a car registered, Not sure if this has changed but you wont get the car on the road until this is sorted, Not sure if this is for less than 10 years old or not or even if it still applies...worth checking.

P1-Murph 05 January 2015 05:50 PM

Simple answer YES.

Long answer, YES but its not cheap.... -

The above is 100% and still currently the process.

Any car's 10 years or older (Registered date) will simply just require a MOT after notifiying the DVLA of the car arriving (or prior to its arrival).

Any car under 10 years of age, requires a SVA to be completed - on Limited edition/rare cars - this is where it gets expensive.

Also if you are importing the car yourself, you need to also pay the import duty and VAT of the value of the car (including duty), and all port fees...

Hope that helps :-)

B0DSKI 05 January 2015 06:21 PM

Cheers guys.

Pretty much what I thought regarding model reports etc. SVA is not a problem as the Ford GTs I work on also need one so I know where that can be done.

Would only Iain at Litchfields hold a model report for the mentioned models?

pacenote 05 January 2015 06:22 PM

Think Juggers on here had one

TonyBurns 05 January 2015 08:11 PM

I think they use the IVA now so its on a car by car basis rather than an SVA, Immy should be able to tell you more :)

peter zippy reid 05 January 2015 08:14 PM

My 53plate sti was just m.o.t

If it was 10 years or older at import then the car would only require a standard VOSA test.

peter zippy reid 05 January 2015 08:18 PM

Yes mate just got it in september

Who would you take it to for a IVA test Tony?

Anything like a R205 will require more than a model report and is not easy to register at all. Ask Max at Hurst cars he will tell you took him the best part of 6 months to get the red type ra sorted!

B0DSKI 06 January 2015 07:15 AM

Sounds like it's not worth considering then. I've not got the time to be chasing things 24/7

True. To be honest it would be a whole lot easier to just get another JDM Hawk

gregwill 06 January 2015 09:24 PM

What would the approx cost ect of getting one of them R205 imported over?? its one hell of a nice bit of kit mind!!

You would still most probably be waiting a while to get a nice jdm hawk unless you can get your old one back !! :thumb:

I can't imagine you'd get much change from £25k at current prices.

A grade 4.5 or 5 car would most likely cost well in excess of this.

Hugely desirable cars and still quite new.

IVA pdf for those interested, sounds like it will make importing cars more accessable to general public. That doc reds like SVA is no longer required if you go IVA. litchfield must be rather narked at that, no more charging people for the sva docs

Don't be so sure of yourself, will still require a model report. Anything that is taken from the production line and tuned does not comply to IVA regs.
R205, ra-r, type RA and S204 once they become 10 years old it's a peace of piss.
