Improve gear change?
Hi folks, I've had my first Impreza for just over a week now, a 2004 UK STI PPP remapped to 320 and fitted BC coilovers fitted.
One of the first things I want to do is make the gear change shorter and smoother. The gearbox fluid has been changed in the last few months so I'm not going to do that. I've been looking at the perrin short shift kit which Scooby Clinic sell, this kit gets good reviews online. This kit also comes with shifter bushes. What other parts can I change to improve the gear change, unless the perrin kit is all that is needed? Pete |
Hi Pete,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the scooby! You're the same as I was when I first had my 06 sti. The feel of the gearbox was a bit of a let down. If you do go for the Perrin short shift kit make sure it's the one with the shifter bushing too. That makes the most amount of difference and removes a lot of the slop! I found that fitting that and the short shifter made changes from 2nd to 3rd a lot easier when giving it the beans. I've been told that fitting the stiffer rear gearbox bushing will help too but I've not fitted that yet. Let us know what you go for and how you find it! :thumb: edit:This is what I'm on about http://shop.scoobyclinic.com/index.p...product_id=575 you might find it cheaper elsewhere |
The perrin kit is great as it removes any sloppy feel to the gear stick :thumb:

the normal wearing part is actually the UJ assembly which we custom make new bushes for - plenty of reviews around including this one

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...ushes-wow.html Would there be much of a difference between this and the Perrin bushings? I thought it would add more NVH being solid? Admittedly I don't know too much about these sort of things! |
the Perrin doesn't replace the UJ components (in fact i have never come across any kit that does hence why we custom made them to suit)
we did this initially for our race/rally customers but have supplied a huge amount of kits for road cars also - you will get a slight increase in noise as it provides a more precise link but not an issue to my mind or by the feedback received https://www.facebook.com/ASPerforman...type=3&theater |
Can vouch for the quality and feel of the bushes that AS provide, make a good difference to the gear change 👍
