STI type UK 2.5

I have been looking for a 2005 widetrack in good condition and reasonable mileage now for some time. The good ones all seem to go before i get chance to see them.

Im now having to look at Hawkeyes as a result but I am concerned about the strength and reliability of the 2.5 engine - hence why i wanted a blob eye.

Although the main issue seems to be 2008 onwards, just how strong/weak and safe are the hawkeyes? i dont want a big bill soon after buying.

There are so many stories on this site that i am not sure what to think.

Thanks

Mine blew up.

Got a couple of mates with cars that are fine.

But in my opinion the only 2.5 worth owning is a forged one.

I pulled my engine around the 10-12 K from new for a look
Sure enough scoring & cracked ring on nmbr 2 & signs of gasket eroded ( very slightly )

Moral -- by a forged Hawk ( your buying 2nd hand so it's madness not to

My hawk has 70k miles, no engine issues.

Yes there have been reports of a 2.5's failing, but think how many are on the road that haven't failed? More than those that have...

Whats your budget, you do get the odd cheap hawk that you could get forged yourself or buy a good one all done for you for 11kish?

There's one for sales in N.Ireland - its on the for sale section on here.
It certainly was a good one during my ownership from new, and its in the best colour too - crystal grey

Budget around 11k max. The one in northern Ireland is too high mileage and too much hassle to see and get back.

Not had a good look but only took about 30secs.

A bit over your budget but could possibly meet half way.

Keep in mind the milage doesn't always reflect the age of the engine with built engines.
Also have a look on pistonheads, with your budget you should have no problem finding a nice hawk with forged internals or one cheap enough to get the forged pistons etc yourself.

I'm sure the fellow would collect and deliver you back to the airport?
And the flight is an hour max.
