Aluminium boot lid.:nono:

More research needed, this is also incorrect "This includes extras such as DCCD(Driver Controlled Centre Differential) which allows power to be switched to and from front and rear(70% - 30%)"

It is actually 65-35

Carnut 10 October 2014 09:14 AM

These cars are too cheap, I just don't think they are getting the respect they deserve but maybe need a bit more time:wonder:

Great car though, it's been too long since I've owned a classic and not owning one could be the new definition of madness:freak3:

MattyB1983 10 October 2014 09:19 AM

Lightweight model......lol.....
Seen that written about type R's before.

Nice looking car though and rare to see in black.

They are lightweight, they were sold with more air in the tyres :D

I heard it was helium :lol1:

powerwrx 10 October 2014 10:41 AM

still a great looking car minus the few pointers above..

Maz 10 October 2014 10:45 AM

If I was in the market for a Type R I'd be checking this out.

specialx 10 October 2014 04:45 PM

As above it looks very tidy :thumb:

ditchmyster 11 October 2014 08:54 AM

Looks a bit strange in black to me, not sure I like it TBH even though I am a fan of black cars, just looks strange on a classic, probably why there's not many about, need to see it in the metal to decide I suppose. :wonder:

No mension of map for uk fuel could be a big expense from the offset

You cant map a v4 :nono:, the factory knock link will retard the ignition a few points so will run fine on 98/99

to do so needs an ESL daughterboard fitted or aftermarket ECU

I miss my old black Type R!

(aircon rare on a type R? wrong)

matt12 11 October 2014 03:14 PM

That's what I meant hence the big expense on the offset, even an Esl would be the best part of £600 withought supporting mods

Yes and you dont really need too. Jap fuel 102, factory knock link will retard 3 points, so you have 99, granted you lose a little power, but they run fine. I had one for many many miles with no trouble. Not everyone wants to modify, the Type R is an awesome machine out of the box.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a Type R and a RA? they are both meant to be light weight versions...? but one has 2 doors and one has 4?

Also is there much difference between the verisons?

There are so many different models of Type R's and Type RA's, i.e different years, WRX or STI, limited versions etc your question is impossible to answer without visiting http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/

Check the front arms going on that alloy ;)

Fair enough, but is there a fundamental difference between the type r and ra or are they a similar consept like they are both lightweight versions with quick steering racks etc
I would only be interested in the sti ones as well.

jayallen 12 October 2014 07:59 AM

The most fundamental difference is one has two extra doors...!

MattyB1983 12 October 2014 09:13 AM

The type r isn't a lightweight edition, infact it's one of the heaviest versions of a classic impreza.
its just an STI, minus 2 doors and given a close ratio box.

I was all set to buy this (mechanically seems OK, leaky cam cover gaskets and slightly shabby bodywork/interior but the first classic I have seen with no rust whatsoever in the common places), until purely by chance while killing time before collection I happened across a thread on here by the previous owner just before the current owner got it which put me off somewhat. The current owner/seller seems genuine though.

Ah that's what I wanted to know. I thought they were similar which is why I wanted to know what was their differences so thanks for that :)
Do all the ra's come with the quick steering rack as standard?

No, quick rack was not fitted to all RA's. TypeRA.com would be the place to find out which models had it as standard as I'm not 100% sure.

What did you find out that put you off then? Any link to the thread?
