New member, buying advice

Afternoon chaps (and chapesses),

I have foolishly traded in my stage 2+ Focus ST for a mk5 Golf GTI following the birth of my daughter (needed 4 doors and not allowed as much hoonage) however 6 months later I hate the god awful thing. Well, hates a bit strong as its so bland I can't even gather the energy to hate it.

Anyway, its finally made me realise that I never want to own anything with an inline 4 ever again.

I've had Impreza's on my list for years, ever since a friend had a 22b around 10 years ago. Another friend had a classic with a flap in the roof (can't remember the model). Now seems the perfect time to scratch that itch.

My requirements are it has to be four doors, I'd like to have over 300 usable ponies (without having to service it every ten minutes) and not have astronomical mileage. I have a budget of around £8k.

My budget so far says I should be in decent Blob eye STI territory, which as far as I can tell is the one to go for, but am I missing anything?

Any buying/ownership advice would be greatly received.

Also, i live near Scooby Clinic, are these recommended for mapping/tuning/servicing?

.

I'd look for a nice blobeye widetrack STI. Will have the much improved stronger 6 speed setup with DCCD and the stronger 2.0 litre engine.

I have the 2.5 engine and the torque is great but they have their issues with ringland failure headgasket failure etc. 2.0 is generally bullteproof!

Should get 350bhp with a remap and very basic mods from a newage STI.

Welcome to the mad house & happy hunting! :thumb:

Also, i have my eye on this car (just need to sell the golf first)

Does everything look above board?

Looks ok, but if it were me I'd be looking for a widetrack above that one. Will hold it's value better in the long run.

Something like this:

Good spot :thumb:

Hi op and welcome.
SC have a very good reputation, not least because of their appreciation of the trials and tribulations of being a Subaru owner with an insatiable appetite for power and performance (and the anguish associated with the car being off the road).

There's always threads asking for opinions on prospective buys and you've seen the helpful responses already.

GLWTS - quicker the better (you know you can't wait :norty:).

If you want one with a flap in the roof like your friends classic, then look up 'Impreza STI Type RA' (which is a 4 door) and it will be a lot more raw to drive compared to the newage cars.

I viewed that car at JCT cars.
Didn't rate it at all.
It's certainly not immaculate

Karl_mac_ 11 August 2014 11:18 AM

Thanks for the advice chaps!

I did go up to JCT and explained I was looking a for a blob STI. However he'd only let me test drive a WRX300 he had in, then offered £6k for my Golf!

Think I know what I'm looking for now. Want something between 50-60k miles thats has belts done. I'm funny about high mile cars as I tend to put a lot on them so buy something thats lower.

Been reading through a few threads and my target of 330 looks nice and easy to get to. Happy days!

Ouch. Hadn't taken a deposit when I posted the link! Oh well.

So, quick update to the thread, I will shortly be a Scooby owner!

I quickly came to the conclusion that no matter which Scoob I bought, it was going to be the wrong one, theres just too many varients - Wrx, Sti, bug, blob, hawk, uk, jdm, spec C etc...

So I focused on getting a tidy one.

A friend bought this a couple of weeks ago and doesn't like it. So after a bit of negotiation and oart ex-ing the golf, here I am.

The car is a single owner car, being owned from new by a SIDC member, 02 Bug, STI with PPP. Full Milltek + sports cat, BC coil overs, ARBs etc... 52k miles and serviced on the button. Its been properly loved.

First things last

- get it to Scooby Clinic for a service and to understand what mods it has.
- fit my pioneer stereo
- possibly de-badge the tailgate

Just need to wait for my mate to recieve V5 so we can sort the paperwork out.

XDevil666 09 September 2014 03:10 PM

looks nice mate, just remember to buy something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2ed481b7df

:D

That ones got projector headlights, I wouldn't swop those for anything.

Trinity 09 September 2014 04:53 PM

What he said, NEVER swap those projectors!!!

and especially not for those dreadful chav Morettes. Morettes should be burned, all of them, every single pair.
