Are there any decent Classic Imprezas left?!

As above really... thinking about buying back into the fold and would love a mint Classic Impreza.

Used to be able to find rust free examples if you looked hard enough, but they are starting to get pretty thin on the ground now.

Still looking... slightly less strict requirements now:

- Classic (UK Turbo/WRX/STi)
- MIGHT consider pre-facelift but would have to be a cracking car
- 4dr or 5dr
- Standard OE appearance (No big wank wings or bodykits)
- Very well cared for example (no big dents, chewed alloys, ruined interiors, etc)
- Sub ~100k miles
- No rust (Non Negotiable)
- Any colour but silver (..unless an amazing silver example appears!! :lol1: )
- Full Service History with all receipts (Non Negotiable)
- No mega powerful examples (215bhp to 350bhp)
- Max budget ~3k

Is anyone selling something suitable?? Or could be persuaded to let their pride and joy go?? :thumb:

Cheers,
Grant

- Classic UK Turbo

- Very well cared for example (no door dings, chewed alloys, ruined interiors)
- Sub 60k miles (Give or take ~20k for right car)
- No rust (Non Negotiable)

A blast from the past!
Still some minters about.
I own a mint P1 with a few tweeks but it's not for sale

pete marshall 07 August 2014 07:46 AM

I have a very good one for sale, meets 95% of your requirements - its on Ebay now, 1998 uk turbo, brilliant red, I'm in Norfolk. 2.5k

mikejenkins 07 August 2014 08:10 AM

They are still around but most of them if not rusty in the arches shortly will be looking from behind. I paid £1900 for a 68k miles MY00 last year with almost complete history and the arch had just started to go on driver's side only (not bad inside), but the previous owner had recently spent around 2 grand on servicing and a new radiator and I had to put another £800 ish into it for new tyres and callipers and general tidying up.

You will probably have to compromise on some of the things on your list unless you get very lucky, but there are so many around still you will likely get one in the end.

euan_r 07 August 2014 09:02 AM

Blast from past indeed. Don't think you will get rot free uk2000 regardless of budget. Later import gc8 you stand a much better chance.

powerwrx 07 August 2014 05:17 PM

im not out of the running for a later classic STi myself, although ide prefer a Blob STi.. as you a rust free low millage one is my preference but I do have a bigger budget..

good luck with your search mate, and if any pop up that your un able to buy then be sure to pass them on :)

lordharding 07 August 2014 05:43 PM

Think you will struggle to get a mint example for a budget of 3k as all will be showing signs of rust on the rear arches
My my00 even has it and is going in the autumn for full cut out and replace and full respray which will cost as much as the car is worth

My car will never be for sale though :D

Some of the map imports are pretty rust free though

ditchmyster 07 August 2014 06:23 PM

Yep, if you want really low miles and rust free, fresh import is the only way to go, oh and double your budget.

Welcome back mate.:thumb:

This yours??
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/subaru-imp...item4ad9f98f46

Looks clean car and good value, and I dont want to sound like im picking at your car especially as you have it for sale, but a extra £1k for that blue one gets you 40k miles and no bubbling on arches, to remove the rust and re-paint the arches your looking £500-800 depending where you take it!!!:thumb:

If you think my comments harm the chances of someone buying your car, let me know and i'll delete my comments!!!:thumb:

Thanks very much for the welcome back lads, I'm not quite back in a flat four yet, but after getting a very good offer on my 335i... I am now seriously looking.

Budget-wise, there is some movement there, but doubling the original budget gets me into a Type R or Newage STi which is where I'd rather put that sort of money if I'm honest.

I would gladly consider a WRX or STi if I could get hold of one.

Cheers,
Grant

Thanks for the offer Pete, but it's a little too far from what I'm looking for. Good luck with the sale though. :thumb:

It does look tick pretty much all of my boxes... but I've spoken with the owner already and there is someone coming to view on Saturday, so I'm fairly sure that will be gone unfortunately.

Grant

No what you say is fine with me, I am happy that mines well worth the £2500 I'm asking, as the advert says there is a small amount of bubbling at the rear of one arch that the camera could not even pick up, if you think that would cost £500-800 to put right then its up to you but I do disagree with that.
Red is rare and it has good mechanical history and reasonable mileage for a 1998 - plus it is very original.

thanks for your comments
pete

My dads bug WRX had bubbling on the arches, when they cut it away its like a cancer it spreads so it might not appear to bad on the outside(slight bubbling) but actually underneath is were it was at its worst.
So it had to be cut out and new metal welded in its place and then re-sprayed, think it was around £400 a side depending how bad.

You'll find something now you've open up your options on model mate. An import might be best for you with your concerns over rust. Bit more power as standard too.

Melly

I bought mine (https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...000-wagon.html) in August from a couple of chaps in High Wycombe, trading off their drive. They advertise on Autotrader only, and seem to have a knack of finding low mileage 1 owner uk cars with proper documented history. Since I got mine, they’ve sold another few similar cars. This is their current ad:

A fairly, ah, robust asking price, a lot more than I paid for mine, but an example of what they seem to find. Could be worth a call, even though they’re not exactly local to you.

That's a really nice car. Looks great in that red.

Thanks very much for the link, I called about this car today and it's sold unfortunately... that's exactly the kind of thing which I'd like though, although a touch over budget.

Grant
