Hawkeye WRX fuel filter
 

Hi all, Looking to replace the standard fuel pump with a walbro 255 jobbie. While there I may as well do the fuel filter as its in the tank. Had an extensive google and ebay search but cannot find anywhere to buy one?! Anyone know if there is somewhere I can easily get one or an uprated one? Or is it a dealer visit? Also part number might assist me if anyone has it.

Under bonnet filter was moved inside the tank on hawk onwards so I am told.. that and I do not have the old style filter under the hood :)

You can use any of the later type just split the cartridge and swap the elements, thats what i done. They aint cheap in dealers, i was lucky to get one of ebay which was private seller who had it for his forester

I have sent them an email to confirm it will fit but I may also phone local dealer and see if they will sell me one.
I would be willing to replace with uprated part with maybe a replaceable filter element if one exists.

this is the earlier type part num (same as mine) 42072FE020 - just swap the elements out. can get them of ebay US sellers, genuine part for about £55 delivered to your door

Has got me thinking about in-line filters though. No reason I couldn't remove it completely from inside the tank and relocate it elsewhere.. Say under the car tucked away or in the engine bay.

Would save me hassle if I need to change it again and probably have a faster flow rate.

Well no reply from import car parts so far..

I am seriously considering the Sytec Bullet filter and moving it elsewhere on the car.
They are cheaper than the OEM filter and relocating it would be more simple when it comes to servicing. Filters down to 8 microns (oem 10-20 Microns) and a new element is about £5. This to me seems a win win situation.

Anyone know what size the fuel pipe is? Want to see about ordering one. I am guessing 8-10mm?

In my work you are expected to respond to emails.. I tend to apply the same ethos to everything outside of work as well. Why have an email address if you do not respond to it?

I must admit I am torn between keeping it OEM with the filter in the tank and having the external easily replaceable filter. Somebody must have done that before?

the intank filter is 60k mile service item - hence most just change it once in their lifetime of ownership

I have seen the service interval on this item.. the car has just tipped over 61k so is due for it.
I might go the OEM route as people may ask questions should I come to sell the car.

Yeah but not sure on model that one is. Read I need Walbro GS342 or equivalent. GS341 has a different intake. 1 offset 1 in the middle not sure what one.

Just get a 255lph pump of Scoobyworx on here, in traders section. Ive been running one now for 2yrs without any issue

heard mixed reviews on the walbro ones and HRC are meant to be quieter.
Will keep me busy next weekend no doubt :)

Fuel filter and pump changed today. Was a very tight fit to get it all back on the bracket with the HRC pump. Anyone else had that? The filter and pump inlet/outlets are touching inside the fuel hose.
Put it all back together loosely and car fired up and ran ok so went and bolted all down.
Started up and went for a drive round the block to check everything all ok. Felt as if it pulled a little better but could be the placebo effect.

came to car a few hours later and it hesitated to start.. Ran ok after though. I am slightly worried by this but will keep an eye on it. Anything I should check or have done different?
