Any one made carbon fibre parts ?

I fancy having a go at carbon fibre "wet laying ". doesn't look to hard and i've made fibre glass stuff before. Think i may make a center console section ( around hand brake/glove box and gear stick ) just wandered if anyone else had done this ?

also wandered if any one knew if there's a size limit to these things ? i can get the weave cloth pretty cheap and wandered if a bonnet was viable ?

cheers :)

It would be commercial suicide if someone in business starts giving away their know how.

I'm sure carbonmods sell diy kits ....

rooferman 14 May 2014 06:32 PM

Everything you need...http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/

Adam Matthew Silver 14 May 2014 07:58 PM

i dont need any of the stuff. got plenty of epoxy and a cheap supply of carbon wave fabric. just wandered if any one on here had done it and if a bonnet was structurally viable

rooferman 14 May 2014 08:05 PM

Won't waste my time again then .... Good luck !

Wow,if you've got to ask the question I would say that your not ready.

Adam Matthew Silver 15 May 2014 08:46 AM

i ask, because i have only made small ( dash sized ) bits before. and usually when professionally made, large bits of carbon layering are pressurized, wandered if it was safe to do it without that.

I am not questioning your ability but its not a part of the car that you can just have a go at. I don't think even the experts will test the parts like they should do but its not just cosmetic, its a matter of safety as well.

As far as I am aware he is just talking about skinning his existing bonnet in carbon?

If not, start with the spoiler, because then if it does go wrong it wont damage you car, just the person behind you :D

Adam Matthew Silver 15 May 2014 10:52 AM

Tbh didn't realiae the bonnet was a structural part.

And nope wasnt looking to skin it. Was going to use existing bonnet to make a mould then do 2 layers of heavier weave fabric for outer skin then 2 layers fibreglass for inner skin (for hinges, catch etc to attach too)

Mebe ill just stick to interior parts Haha

Thanks
