time attack

hi guys looking into time attack and was considering club class but would like to know roughly what sort of power imrezas are already racing as I don't know the rough ball park to be competitive I know its down to setup and driver but power does come into it ?

cheers james

Damien's Legacy is 600 ish, Andy Grady's is over 500 IIRC. Not sure on Dave Coe's or Matt Webster's cars.

Power isn't everything, but you'll need a fair whack of it, and some deep pockets for the entry fees etc.

There are definitely cheaper motorsports out there, time attack is going to cost a fortune, andif you want to be competitive add another fortune on top of that

j4meswrx 05 May 2014 09:44 PM

It's not really about the money I was aiming to make a reliable 500-550bhp race car but want to compete in it I've looked at the other motorsports and it always seems to be lower power and loads of rules. I know I'm not going to be competitive with the big boys but in club class it is possible I also want to compete in some drag shoot outs and possibly totb

You could do the MLR/22B sprints cheaper and less rules than most :)

j4meswrx 05 May 2014 09:47 PM

That sounds interesting any model of Subaru can compete ?

Its different thing, time attack is a race where you can get the best time and the spirnts are a race where you can get the best time,

errr :D Time attack is lots of cars on the track at once whereas sprints is you on the track alone :D

To be competitive 700+ in a well sorted car....and dont forget the big balls, lol ;D

JGlanzaV 06 May 2014 07:44 AM

And the money to carry a whole car in spares in a truck to every race so when you break it on the first lap you dont loose your money and a whole weekends racing

j4meswrx 06 May 2014 07:57 AM

Well I thinks I might have a go at the mlr 22b sprint that sounds a bit better and looked on YouTube looks good fun

You won't find a better place to start with an impreza than the 22b sprint series. I've started this year on a tight budget and it's still great fun.

If you go into any other series the costs will skyrocket meeting MSA and series rules.

Try the sprints in a lower class then if you like it develop the car later to suit what you enter.
You don't want to throw huge money at a car until you really know what your aiming for.

Power is not your first concern though. Decent brakes, handling & suspension mods and tyres will do more for lap times on a lot of the sprint tracks than a few more BHP. A decent driver helps obviously. An entry level class s1 car was faster than a lot of cars with almost twice the power at the last event.

If you want to aim for 500-550 you would be looking at s2 class.

JGlanzaV 06 May 2014 08:43 AM

I want to start using mine, and been down south, there isnt alot of places to do this, I was looking at hill climbing, but the effort and cost involved to make the car comply with the MSA regs etc is a nightmare, and by the time you buy proper suits, helmets, gloves etc it costs an arm and a leg.

I dont know if anyone knows, and sorry for the off topicness! why is a motorbike helmet not suitable for racing purposes?

I have the shell of the car to protect me, all the helmet is there for is to protect my head from the rollcage etc, now a motorbike helmet is good enough to protect a guy against the tarmac, surely it could take a knock against a cage?! It cant be anywhere near as powerful as coming off a bike!

Why don't you guys come along to a mlr sprint teeside is 30th aug great laugh with great people. 2014 is my first year and I'm loving it, it's very addictive.

joe v3sti 03 August 2014 09:40 PM

I can only echo what sonic says, it's a superb series. I've attended every event this year, unfortunately due to a bit of poor planning in my part I've only being able to take part in one event. In doing so I've met loads of great people and learnt a hell of a lot along the way. Get yourself to an event and get involved

Teeside circuit, in the dark, isn't really the best place for people to get a feel for it, IMO.

In fact, just Teeside on the whole isn't a very good place. :D

Practice is in the afternoon and timed runs start around tea time so there will be some daylight action :-)
It's not a premium track but you will still get a feel for the events.

Surely you're not implying that Teesside is a sh*t hole ;-)

It's a statement of fact, not an implication, Andy. :D
