Best induction kit for 51 bugeye jdm
 

As about, and what about the air flow sensor ? Does the induction kits come with a port for it to plug in I realise I would need a remap getting one next month so would like to get one fitted cheers

word on the grapevine is its not necessary until in the region of 350 to 400. most kits will have a bung for the MAF sensor. the likes of cobb and certain k&n claim to be ok for an un tuned engine. i did a little testing the last day and a half swapping my airbox for a no frills ebay intake of the same diameter and put an HKS mushroom on it (had an HKS panel in the box previously) so with filter material being much the same i put my wodeband on the car and as of yet can see no discernable changed in AFR readings with the intake vs previous readings. also cant say i notice any difference in performance either but then its only a lowly near standard 2.5 WRX.

as your modded though id be inclined to play safe and ensure its mapped for if you do decide to fit one.

does drastically increase the turbo noises if thats your bag.. my WRX now sounds like darth vader as the turbo begins to spool and i can clearly hear the whistle as it spools, etc.

I can highly recommend the RCM induction kit set up it comes with the plate for the maf sensor built I to the induction hardware.SJ.

just leave it alone, absolutely no point with a standard setup unless you know you have some airflow issues (your mapper will tell you) and you think its worth ruining your MAF and begin the destruction of reliability

Stop scaremongering:) changing to a induction kit won't do his car any harm plus he said that he is getting the car mapped so it would be a perfect time to do it.SJ.

I had a hks induction and I'm fairly sure I lost some horses with a vf34, made 330hp and I reckon if I left the stock air box with upgraded filter I would of made it into the 330-350s for sure.

Unless going Fmic with scope for bigger power not worth it IMO, unless it's noise your after.

Avoid foam ones if you can, they need a lot of oil to help catch the dirt which then gets on your MAF sensor and sends the readings haywire. The RCM one mentioned is a good option. Your biggest issue will be hot air ingestion which makes them less effiient than the factory airbox which is good for 400bhp. Alterntively get one that has a shield and it's own cold air feed:thumb:

inner wing intake is the ticket i think. the k&n apollo and BMC stuff are good but in order to have a housed filter like that which can fit in most engine bays means the filter has to be small..

no need to pay big money for an intake unless its a mental build and even then you can make something far cheaper than buying a branded kit.

this is the exact same intake i bought, its a near exact copy of an AEM cold air intake allbeit with a cheap ebay filter. its even got the standard diameter section the MAF sensor mounts in then a slightly larger section that connects to that and goes down the inner wing with the filter on the end. i wouldnt use the cheap filter thats included though, mines either geting sold or binned and ill use a decent filter.

though to fit the S shaped section i had to cut about 2.5 inches off the end nearest the wing to allow me to get my HKS mushroom filter in there so after cutting the 2.5 ish inches off the end i basically made one of these for the time being: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2ea8cc6cb7

if you look closely you will see the S shaped pipe on the longer kit is longer than the same pipe on the short ram kit. i can either get the 2.5 inch bit i cut off tig welded back on or just use a longer silicone joiner between it and the other section that goes down in the inner wing.

for the sake of testing and ease/quickness of fitting im running the short ram with HKS filter with no heatshield and without the standard air feed from above the radiator so its sucking the warmest air possible. i checked after some spirited driving this evening and the intake pipe and filter actually was not anywhere near as warm as i was expecting given theres no shield or air feed though with a proper cold air setup it would be cool to touch so it is pulling warmer air regardless. assuming my AFR readings dont change in the coming days (though i suspect they wont as have already put car through ts paces on the intake) then i think i might start building a decent short ram intake setup similar to the shielded cobb, k&n or cosworth intakes to sell on using my own as the proto. have done similar on some other cars before and the layout in the new age impreza engine bay is a cake walk in comparison. thinking quality filter and carbon fibre shield or airbox as would need to function well and look good to be worth doing.
