What ecu to buy?

1995 impreza wrx import. I want to know what ecu I need to get to support a few mods like, bigger injectors, updated fuel/oil pump, possibly bigger turbo.

tattoosi 07 April 2014 07:34 AM

Mine lol. If yrs is a 3 port I have a ecutek licence paid. £120 delivered ono

Smiff65 07 April 2014 09:56 AM

Yeh it's just the standard one the japs put on. Will yours support a few basic engine mods?

banny sti 07 April 2014 10:32 AM

Best getting an ESL daughterboard :)

tattoosi 07 April 2014 11:35 AM

Yeah it's had an ecutek map on it mate so is ready for what ever u have on yr car. U will just have to pay the mapper his fee as the licence has been paid on the ecu

Your 99 ecu won't fit in the mans 95 car !

tattoosi 07 April 2014 05:25 PM

I was gonna ask that as I'm aware some of the pre facelift have the same 3 port ?

stonejedi 07 April 2014 06:32 PM

Apexi ecu.SJ.

dj219957 07 April 2014 07:18 PM

nothing wrong with using the standard ecu and a esl board.

Turbotits 07 April 2014 07:26 PM

Esl for the op's needs

Jaysz 07 April 2014 07:32 PM

I am using esl

Not great advice. One fuel map, one ignition map, no 3d boost control, no knock control, must retain the MAF.

Smiff65 08 April 2014 10:52 AM

spoke to the scoobyclinic and the guy told me just with a new ecu and a map he will be able to get in the region of 300 bhp out of it as its running the tdo5 turbo already

Be a struggle on the standard injectors and tmic, unless they've been changed

Smiff65 08 April 2014 11:45 AM

no as far as I know its all standard apart from the induction kit and exhaust

You don't need a 'new ecu'. ESL board fitted into your current ecu is the way to go.

out of interest, what did the clinic advise ??

Dmacnz 09 April 2014 01:31 AM

+ESL daughter board. Amazing setup and the price is unbeatable!

edsel 09 April 2014 08:04 PM

44Occ injectors, uprated fuel pump, upgrade the slanty intercooler with an esl map and you have your potential 300bhp.
Early ECUs are not mappable, you need to fit a daughter board or complete after market ecu that allows the mapper to do his stuff. I found the ESL board the most cost effective way of mapping my early MY96 car.

If your car has grey 380cc injectors and lets say for instance you replaced them with 440cc items it will probably run like a dog (mine did) without a tweak to the map, Hence the ESL board and map changes are needed.

Is the esl daughter board possible to fit on a v5 sti, also where would be the best place to purchase one
I was told the standard ecu can be remapped on the v5 onwards

We are close to a solution but it isn't a board, it's a firmware update. You can currently map the v5 using ecutek.

There's no power limit on any ECU, you can run 1000+bhp on any of them with the right supporting mods.

The reason it's bad advice is that if someone follows it they will spend more to get less.

I think Andy just meant that the Apexi doesn't offer great value for money anymore. They still demand a high price and in reality are very basic. You're still looking at £300 plus mapping for one which is what the ESL costs, it just doesn't make sense to go with the apexi.
