Now my poor mate toneh is feeling a bit boris karloff :lol1: on account of all thats been said against O/S, and now hey ho seems he was right after all.
:notworthy

But as usual good old SNET is shooting the messenger yet again, even though his thread was responsible for the creation of the new mapping section, which i for one think was something very good and useful to forum members.

I hope toneh does turn pro, as he seems to know more about mapping than one of the numpties that mapped my car, which shat itself twice FYI, and he's local to me and me new mapping best buddy so i'm in for a freebie.:D

Agree with that I must say, thing is with snet is people listen to the bull that they have been fed and belive it without looking deeper and shoot the messenger as you say.

Love him or hate him Toneh has certainly shaken up the new mapping section. Iv been watching all this from afar & I think it's a big eye opener for us all. The issues raised by Toneh are certainly valid & have created some of the most interesting posts on the forum eventhough controversial. I'm in no way siding with anyone though as there are many issues to consider here. I'd love to be able to do my own mapping though, big respect there.

Thanks for the comments guys , I don't open my mouth to attract attention or to start a pro mapper witch hunt , I do it to try and get some honesty and truth into play
End of
It started when a mapper tried to force ecutek on me and two or three customers where around also and said yeah you want ecutek

So me being me went away did a little research and the findings didn't add up

First time ecutek £450/£500
O/s circa £300 depending on extras

So no brainer , looks the same does the same job ( o/s it is )
I then went one step further and decided to map my own car ( but that's a different story )

So let's fast forward a little , I map my car with o/s software / roms ect and realise hey this is cool I'm liking it , but still can't understand the price difference , so start a thread mapping rip off
And we're off , I ask why charge so much , especially things like ecutek
As some of you may have read the replies where varied and various reasons given
( ok that's fair comment )
Now one of the reasons for price hikes was software /roms ect and not just on the rip off thread
I have been told that with ecutek you get a proven rom which as had a lot of testing and development time spent ( therefore the cost is passed to the customer , again fair comment
I was told and have also read that o/s software including carberry is not really acceptable , it's not stable untested , has glitches and bugs ,
Yet I've had no trouble I've not read any others guys having trouble ( quite the opposite in fact ) and the mappers fail to say what the problems are in specific terms !And because they have not had to contribute towards development costs on roms like carberry I don't see any price drop ?
Fast forward to present events , it's now become apparent that pro mappers are using certain o/s roms , which only a very short while ago where dismissing !

I've also noted certain threads and posts have been deleted where said comments where made , dubious indeed

So it looks pretty simple and the mapping rip off thread can have some justification

If you've payed £450/500 for a first time Commercial map you've been ripped off if you've not got all the whistles and bells
Because if you went o/s you could have had the lot ,all singing all dancing for the lower end of that figure
So lesson learned I think , don't be led by what you're told , as I've said all is not what it seems
And I know there's guys out there that have had bog standard remaps and are gonna say , well I'm happy , true you may be , but a little extra for the same price can never be a bad thing

I think trouble may be brewing
If indeed carbibbles receive hard data through
Infringement of copyright & malicious tampering of a product
Ie verbally or aesthetic
This might just turn into courtroom action
But judging by the response from over seas I wouldn't be suprised

No it won't and can't. Andrew has said his piece.
It's not protected or anything so I very much doubt it, anyone can do the same, car bibbles has put it on the Internet for the whole world to see, so it's his own fault if anything, but has made it clear for anyone to use.
Keep up this has all been sorted now, just apart from the fact that other commercial mappers are using the same.

Not going to happen, Carberry is in the public domain with no copyright, It was developed for free use.

jazzyjembreaze 16 November 2012 08:25 PM

Ok , so to take the carberry rom
Change it's name & say its your own is wrong
But if there is no copyright then the only people this should concern is the development team stateside who , I imagine will be feeling rather cross & angry

Yes but still nothing can be done and it's all been sorted now with both parties involved.
Where have you been?

toneh 16 November 2012 08:41 PM

Carbibbles main gripe was the fact he was not credited for his work and the fact his work may have been portrayed as sub standard
As for copyright ect
I think you guys should credit him with a little intelligence , I'm sure he was fully aware his rom may be used by a commercial mapper but suprised and dissapointed at the way said mapper marketed his work

Roms like this don't turn up willy nilly mate
The carberry rom is a major development for o/s and if you keep tabs on work in progress and new roms for o/s you're not gonna be seeing things like this cropping up week in week out

jazzyjembreaze 16 November 2012 09:12 PM

I know that toneh
It was tongue & cheek
That was a gracious reply from Jason to mr carrs admission IMO
Def makes you question trust honesty & the way some people do business

Regards

Yes it was indeed, and even went on to say enjoy using the rom

Now theres a guy I have massive respect for and is obviously not out to milk every penny he can get and puts in a massive amount of effort into helping folk out

interesting thread (and not really any surprises)

as with so much in this world - the real crime is getting caught
