Been a long time since i was in chemistry class, but they were death traps when i was in school and i assumed they would have been removed from all schools by now to be honest.

unless they have been "revamped" or something over the years that i don't know about, only have old memories of the ones in my middle school, actually they are the same ones that james foggon used to burn the school down one summer holiday :lol1:

Yeah, know what you mean, I was guilty of messing around with the gas taps as a kid, I don't know anyone who didn't tbh. We had shut off valves for every room and they were only switched to the on position for the time we would be carrying out any 'practicals'.

Well it looks as though the teacher is a bit short of patience or maybe for some reason she has a "down" on your lad. She should never say things like that to him in front of the class. No wonder he is frightened to go to school!

I still think you should ask to speak to the teacher because of your concern for your lad's education and ask her face to face just what is happening for him to deserve such treatment but without getting into a "flare up" situation. It really is not good for your lad if he is being treated unfairly.

i am having the same trouble with my daughters school. she has just turned 8.
she was born 3 months prematurely and suffers from some brain damage.
Angel has come home in tears many times as the teacher wont look at the homework unless she can say 'WOW' when she opens it.
it is obvious that the homework that gets handed in is done by the parents. this means that unless i cheat for her then she wont get anywhere. as she was born early she is one of the youngest in her class, add on the fact that she is unable to compete with the older not brain damaged kids she doesn't stand a chance :mad:
she spends hours on her work only for the teacher to basically ignore her efforts. the teacher thinks that the extra half to one hour a week teaching Angel gets warrants her negativity. :cuckoo:

the school now want to move Angel down a year! this would do more harm than good as she has grown up with the kids in her class and they are sympathetic to her condition. i wish i hadn't complained now. we are to have a meeting next week to hopefully resolve the issues :(

We had issues with our youngest, not confrontational situations just they didnt have the time to lavish on him, we were lucky to be able to send him private and that has made a difference, in a smaller class he cant doss off and they monitor him like a hawk, he does get a lot of homework though.

You need to go and speak to the teacher, dont go in all guns blazing though and keep it in mind you only have his version at the moment and seven year old boys do have vivid imaginations and sometimes get things wrong, that said she sounds unpleasant to be making him feel like that and whatever the situation is he shouldnt not want to go to school.

That's not what I meant, I have weaker subjects that give me lower scores on some tests.

had a good heart to heart with the teacher, who admits she to keen sometimes, denied calling him stupid so we will never know,
She has given him a good mark for his last homework attempt so, we will let sleeping dogs lie,

His behaviour tonight is fine the last two days he's been a sod for andrea,
so i expect he is back to his happy self.

IQ tests are split into categories, though - spacial awareness (visual / geometric), verbal and numeric, and it's normal to have different levels of aptitude in each. Maybe that's what he means by 'subjects'.

I'm amazed he couldn't communicate that effectively, what with his god-like IQ :lol1: :D

I did them and score the same no matter what answers I gave :lol1:

I really hate to point out the obvious but I answered this thread about my own experience and offered some encouragement to a parent who's teacher felt the need to possibly demonize his son.
Some of you have felt the need to pick at me, in a similar way.
By questioning my post you didn't really manage to make yourself look clever.
Does everyone really need a detailed explaination of every single little sentence, even if it does go off topic?
I doubt I would get 157 again on an IQ test and I really don't feel the need to join a club because of it.
AndyC_772 has explained it a little better, I do well in visual/geometric/numeric categories.

I think everyone growing up throughout school had certain teachers they didn't like,because they were hard and disciplined.But having red lines across homework etc with the words(see me)at the bottom of page,was normal in my days at school.Every morning we used to get thirty mental questions,the teacher would call out your name,you would stand up in class and say the times table or spell words.If you got it wrong then you got humiliated in front of the whole class,but next time you would make sure it was right.What is wrong is if a teacher is picking on a certain pupil,which you may be thinking is what's happening with your lad.

1. the school should have a homework policy. if not then ask why, some schools do not set homework as it is not statutory.
2. on this policy it should state the amount of homework that should be set, how regular and how much and how it relates to the work done in class.
3. there should also be an outline of if and how the child should be reprimanded if homework is not completed.
4. writing over a pupils work is 'defacing' it should not be done. the homework belongs to the child not the teacher.
5. if the 'inspectors' are in, then the teacher is going to be extra stressed and is probably going over board on setting work to make sure she is up to date on what should be done. I bet that the amount of homework given out substancially reduces once an inspection is over.
