No still no news and hopefully all should be fine after the interview with the claims investigator this morning.

If the Tracker had triggered they would have phoned me, but I think it only triggers when the car is moved and it would appear the tracker was disabled before they moved the car.

Once the claim is settled I will ave to think how to secure the replacement.

But first I have to decide what to replace it with!

There are no HT leads on STi's, and indeed on many other cars. The reason is that they use separate coils (4 in this case) each mounted direct onto a spark plug. Known as "coil on plug" oddly enough....

There is normal wiring (LT?) to each coil and the ECU tells each coil to fire when a spark is required, coil output is direct onto the top of the spark plug so no separate coil, no HT "king lead", no dizzy and no HT leads to the plugs.

I guess the modern equivalent of removing the HT lead is to unplug the crank sensor. If you want to make it less easy to just plug it in again then cut the wire off at the other end and join it with a new plug and socket. Then you can take the wire with you. Not totally sure where the crank sensor is on an STi mind, sometimes near the flywheel, sometimes near the front pulley.

Couple if things really Donington has always been the same, every year i go to the RS National day, any yep the old 3dr's go missing, 2/3 every year, so i wouldn't ever trust the place, i have a snap off steering wheel like suggested, good put off.

In a positive as possible way, the fact the police were chasing your car ads strength to your case for a payout, insurance companies like to wait ages for proof that the car is def gone and not coming back. But if the police can confirm seeing the vehicle, it takes the element of fraud away which insurance companies are really thinking.

The Tracker?, i've got a tracker fitted in mine, has a back up battery...etc. So even if it is removed it should still power for 24hrs.

It needs to be attached to the chassis, you'd be pissed if the police came back and told you we've found the seats in a garage, but we don't where the car is???

Really bad news, hope you get the insurance sorted quickly, and can get back into a nice car.

Sounds like the security chap at Donnington gets a decent cut from the sale of nice performance cars that happen to go missing from the parking area.
He conveniently doesnt hear or see anything, and the thieves also happen to know the type of vehical they are coming to "borrow", so would have the necessary equipment to make it quick and painless to take.
Then, they drive unchallenged through the gate.

Just a thought anyway.

As a replacement, well, Scoobs seem to attract thieves. In this case, the most important factor was you werent hurt in the process, but going forward, id be very wary owning another, and would you want to risk all this hassle etc again?
As you attend a lot of events that require you to be away from your car a lot, in not very secure areas, maybe get a beater for that, and a nice car for fun.

Also, dont think snap off steering wheels are a major deterent. Car thieves sometimes carry a monkey-wrench or similar, tighten that onto the steering column, and off they go, using that to steer.

I think, as has been mentioned, for the situation in a car park, a nice big steering lock would be best, its visible, and makes it a pain to nick the car unoticed.

How have you gone on with your insurers and is there any further news on the WR1.

Trackers are just baggage on a car. Did a test on mine and it took four attempts at four different locations to find my car over a week of trying :eek: :eek: :eek:. Car theives know exactly where there installed and disable them, but sometimes don't bother cause they know there a piece of sh1t.

an anecdote from history, how true I don't know.

in the 1700's the South Sea Company was the Enron of the time. From this when the South Sea bubble burst is where the phrase comes from.

One of the spin-offs from this piece of dodgyness was 'a methode to refunde a losse to people whom are a victim of theftes and robberies'

After the bubble burst, and the board of the South Sea Company were tried ( a couple were publicly flogged, server time with hard labour and deported - NAt West 3 take note), several of these insurance merchants were also tried and convicted of extortion (no surprise there) and deception from having no intention of compensating the victims of dishonesty.

Seems that not much has been learnt in 300 years.:cry: :cuckoo:

A brief update to this:-

I got a call from Leicstershire Police yesterday to say they know who stole the WR1.

They wouldn't give me too much detail other than the fact it was travellers (which I found a bit odd as you wouldn't have thought they would have been able to disable the tracker etc.,..).

No sign of the car but the police officer said the scumbag is currently in court and due to receive a lengthy custodial sentence. So well done to the Leicstershire Police force.

Do the dealers have a method of flagging this as stolen on their international system, just in case this appears for a service in another country at some point ?

Pleased to hear that the gits that stole your car are getting punished for it by the police. Shame you couldn't be given time alone with them to give the a piece of your mind.

just my 2p, has anyone tried removing the fuel pump fuse and putting a blown one in, then even if a scote bypasses all the security the car won't start.

These pro car theives might have all the tech to bypass the security but i wonder how many of them carry spare fuses :)

Might be a bit of a ball ache evertime you leave the car, but might work.

Seems to me that the guy is asking for 'other crimes to be taken into consideration'

My car has no security whatsoever (don't need any here) hopefully it will take the thieves so long to work out where the tracker and alarm is that they will get caught, and as there is no tracker or alarm they will be looking in the wrong places anyway.

Sorry to hear about you car mate, mne is 7 years old and I would be gutted if it got nicked.
