I had a bit of fun with an R1 near devils bridge.

Came out of a 30 onto a straight, R1 moves out to overtake, I floor it (EVO V), the biker looks up amazed !, drops it a cog (see him stamping on the pedal ;) ) and sails past :)

Caught him in the bends though, the EVO seemed to have more grip and could corner at slightly higher speeds (he did have his knee down though). The AYC was a big help as it kept the car stable.

Never done it since as I suddenly realised that if he fell of, I would probably have driven right over him :(

Came across an AMG merc and a Hartage BM having a bit of a run in wales when I was late. It was wet and the EVO slaughtered them with its traction advantage out of the corners.

The GT 2 is a true supercar and has far more power than any standard scooby out there... and yes it'll do 195mph but.... according to the performance specs it'll do 0-62 in 4.9 seconds........ JUST AS AN EXAMPLE.... the WR1 performance specs say 0-60 in 4.2... so 0-62 in what.... 4.3/4.4 and if memory serves most of the FQ derivatives of the Evo are in this sort of area.... Also I would suspect that an Evo or WR1 would be marginally better in the twisties than the GT 2 (Porsches lurve to wiggle thier butts!) so..... Why might the GT 2 driver not have been trying.... Unless we're talking very high speed scenarios (120 plus) then a scoob or Evo would for all intents and purposes pose quite a challenge to the Porsche!

You need to look beyond 0-60 times. What they don't portray is how a GT2 once rolling will just go on and on and on piling on the pressure. You really need to experience this, because the truth is the people who say he wasn't trying are right. I've owned an impreza turbo, evo 6 and 996 C2 3.6. Even in my normally aspirated 911, it was massively quicker above 70mph than the other two cars, and the GT2 is in a different league again.

Bring "the twisties" into it, but with such capable machinery on public roads all you're testing is who is prepared to take the most chances and values their own life the least; you're no longer comparing the cars.

I had a race against a R1 in my 300+bhp scoob and he left me standing on his back wheel, theres no point racing motorbikes like R1's, Ducatti's and Ninjas and other superbikes in a straight line cause theres only going to be one winner, and I dont even like bikes.

But if you want an example of how fast a bike would go on a quarter of a mile go here.http://www.jsread.com/tvr/quartermile.htm and choose the Suzuki GSX -R1000 and put it up against any car and watch it beat everything.

Face it mate, your not on to a winner on this subject!

maybe he accelerated in 4th gear, underestimating the power of the scooby

that might be the case, fair enuf. ive still raced other slower sports bikes and won so at the end of the day a bike is a bike and i shouldn't really have a chance

I know nothing about Porsches and am not ashamed to say so.... To be honest before I got hooked on Scoobies and got my own WRX my idea of the ultimate vehicle... to be purchased IMMEDIATELY my lottery numbers came up was a 4.7L V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee!! Always been into 4x4s rather than 'sports' cars... Any way with this in mind I am in no possition to enter into any kind of debate BUT.......

Just been on to the Top Gear web site and checked out the power lap board... and the Porsche 911 GT3 (don't know how this differs from a GT2) did the lap in 1.27.2 the Evo VIII in 1.28.9.... so 1.7 secs difference...... now.... I watched the programme where the EVO did this lap time and the model in question was an FQ300........ this begs the question "what if"........ FQ320?....... FQ340?...............................FQ400???????! !!!!!!

I stand by my comments that an evo or wr1 could prove to be quite a challenge to the Porsche.

On a track - yes, but in a straight line - no :)

A straight line was not in question... this originally sprang about the following 2 responses to the original thread the second in particular (last line)

1 - "Not Since last year when we wiped the grin of a certain Porsche GT2 owner... BTW I was in a EVO 6 at the time.... does that count?"

2 - "Yawn....
You know, I tune in to a lot of Porsche boards and I have yet to see a single thread along the lines of "which jap tin box have you raced recently"
Wonder why that is...perhaps you guys care & Porsche / Ferrari etc drivers dont.
Oh & to the chap that "beat" a GT2....he wasn't trying....he seriously wasn't."

I wasn't talking bout any other comments in this thread. I was just giving example that given the right roads, it's more than possible for a scoob/evo to deliver when up against GT2/ferrari and other exotica :)

Which was my point exactly.

sewer rat 13 February 2005 10:40 PM

when i first got my 02 sti ppp i had a burn with a porsche carrera ( not carrera gt i hasten to point out, im thick not stupid)from lights at chiswick towards m4, he just edged it which i enjoyed because i found it so hard to find a porsche driver that wanted play and it was worth a try lol, what made me laugh was the m3 driver that had been dogging me in traffic(45 mph max due to congestion) up the A4 from hammersmith pulled into the middle lane with the hump because he couldn't keep up with me and the porker.
just a little burn but a big giggle and we both slowed down when we came up to traffic
