Evo owners have an easy defence for the rally car argument of greatness http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif. That is, that the Scooby WRC car bears absolutely no resemblence to the road car. The Evo Group A car is closer, but still miles away.

The best comparison on the rally stage is Group N, where Evos have won every rally for the last million years.

Ok, I may be exagerrating, but you get my point. In a world where you can't modify too much, the better standard components on the Evo make for a better Group N car.

And Stef, I'd describe you as more than "enthusiastic" on the track. Bloody lunatic would be more like it. Significantly more committed than any Evo driver I've seen - probably cos the Evo's are generally worth more and the drivers care more about the well-being of their cars. You can have fun without taking too many risks, you know :-).

Simon.
I see your point, but if my experiences show that EVO's are unable to pull away from my car then I am perfectly able to state that they are no quicker than Scoobs. The fact they are quicker on paper is irrelevant.
In your experience EVO's are quicker than Scoobs, hence your opinion.
The driver is a vital part of any car, and you cannot continue with the 'if drivers of equal ability drove both...' argument.
That is arguing the 'potential' performance of a car, not real world.
Are Ferrari doing so well becasue they have the best car or the best driver?
McLaren won't win becasue they've theoretically got the best car.
So going back to the origianl debate, I have a UK car with circa 240bhp which is able to keep up with EVO's with 280bhp.
Therefore, EVO's are not quicker than Scoobs. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Andrew.
EVO drivers all drive slower 'cos their cars are worth more??? Wot bollox!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif
My car is worth just as much to me as any EVO is to it's owner, if not more! Material cost is irrelevant. There are loads of Porsche, Ferrari, Skyline, etc owners who drive their cars to the limit on track despite the value of their cars. For many, it's the reason they bought the car in the first place.
If you really belive that the majority of
EVO drivers I've overtaken are slower because they're scared of crashing then it doesn't say much for EVO drivers! In fact, that statement only re-inforces Craig's comment about people buying a car purely for it's reputation then driving it like an ice-cream van!!
I think 'lunatic' abit out of order as well, 'psychopathic' is a bit more like it! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I would also like to add that I only drive in this manner on track, not on the road.....seriously. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Stef

You can't seriously beleive your logic?

I'm going to leave this argument now because, if you ARE servious, there is no way to proceed without offending you, and I'd rather do that over a pint. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Cheers

Simon

DISCLAIMER: I have no axe to grind and have no preference between Subaru and Mitsu.

I have recently swapped from a UK Scooby (running 250bhp) to a Ralliart Evo VI.

Seriously considered P1, but decided on Evo because of rarity, value for money and residuals, no other reasons.

Now, I am Joe Average, and people that know me on the board know that I don't hammer my cars and probably have never got even close to the limits of them.

However, it is clear to me that the Evo out accelerates (mid range, I have never launch it from standstill) and outhandles my UK Impreza.

If you haven't been close to the limits of either car it's not really comparing what the cars are capable of is it?
I'd like to think I've got almost as much out of my car as I can on track, though I'm sure someone else could get more. I doubt I'm the only one on track who feels he's driving to the best of his abilities, and pushing their car to the limit. It's one of the reasons I bought the car in the first place.
If we're debating which car is the best, we need to know what each car is capable of. Only pushing them to the limit will tell us that.
I can't wait to get my car back on the road, my mate and his EVO VI are just gagging for it! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
