Great story Eric.

If you are about, please pop in and show it to me one day.

Taff 08 November 2003 12:45 PM

Luke

Thanks for the info. The ends of the loops are stitched together and glued (i guess). The stitches run throught the same hole and the thread loops about 4 times.

Would this suggest a fake?

Thanks
taff

I've just picked itup from Mappin & Webb who are doing an insurance quote - I ddin;t tell them the history and on handing it back they didn't say it was a fake ( I didn't ask either)

FLAT ERIC 08 November 2003 05:10 PM

It would be a pleasure Mr.C. I will try & make it sometime soon.

Thanks for all your nice comments guys.

mail them on mate.

IWatkins 20 November 2003 09:39 PM

Yoza,

Glad I could help :). Not my taste as I said but my dad was more than happy with his and has had no trouble over the two years or so he has had his one.

Editted to say he got his while on holiday in Switzerland rather than from the US site, but I guess they are the same watches in the end.

Cheers

Ian

my mates got a omega schumacher watch if anyones interested about £800 i think

TelBoy 21 November 2003 07:49 AM

Anyone else on here a Patek Philippe owner? :)

Diablo 21 November 2003 09:04 AM

Luke - The posts were removed because you were selling them.

Those Swiss Replica Watch co "fakes" are not that good - from the pictures alone its apparent that ss subs have polished centre links (wrong) and the two tone and all gold don't have gold date wheels - oh, and while I'm at it the crown guards aren't quite right either and the bracelet screws are very poor........

And thats just the Subs...

Still, from a distance they look pretty good - but its a 1000 dollar watch. Very sad - could get an original of something nice for that money

corradoboy 21 November 2003 11:02 AM

I love watches, but can't justify the expense most of the time as I'm still saving for the Scoob. I considered a Tag, but there are too many about, both fake and original. Don't like the fat old businessman image of Rolex. Have heard too many horror stories about Brietling. Omega are growing on me.
I have an Oris Big Crown Original 40mm as.......
http://www.oris.ch/images/watches/bi...3_43_61_MB.jpg
Also have a Maurice Lacroix Automatic Day/Date in 24ct Gold with pearl face and lizzard strap. No longer available so can't find a pic.
Always wanted a Chopard Mille Miglia (1999) and an IWC GST Chronograph. Currently like Patek Phillipe, Panerai and Perregaux but as I say, the money is earmarked for other things.
Oh, and I have a cheap jap Accurist for work. Scratched to hell, gold worn off and bent crown pin but at least I haven't damaged my Swiss engineering masterpieces. I might get a Junghans for everyday when that packs up, don't suppose you can get much more accurate than that.

letdown 21 November 2003 12:02 PM

Im a fan of the Breitlings but about 6months a go I took the plunge and bought a Panerai titanium power reserve.............ouch! but no other watch gets more looks. !!! Still regret the amount of money it cost me !! ;)

Pete Croney 21 November 2003 12:40 PM

Guys

Flat Eric came in last week and showed me the Lancaster Breitling. What a great watch and one of only 60!!

Eric's also got his Dad's flight log book and squadron history, which really added to what this watch is all about. I would be very proud to own it.

Thanks for taking the time to show it all to me Eric :)

Thanks Paul, Yoza is out getting pished, after the England result. Any excuse.

He will probably log on when he rolls in later.

SB.

yoza 22 November 2003 04:47 PM

Thanks Paul.

For anyone who is interested......

The watch is as I expected, BIG and HEAVY, the functions are easy to use and the buttons are big and fumble proof. The lenses are highly bevelled(in particular the sub dials), so they give the dials that magnified look. The lumenicity of the main watch is poor, 6 small dots for the time markers (or every other one from 1-11), and the min and hour hands only. The sub-dials have none.
The bracelet is well engineered, all but 4 links have a screw in, snug fit pin, which gives that bearing type feel when wearing the watch. The clasp is a double locking deployment type, very secure, but it has no expansion buckle. I think it should have seeing as it is marketed as a 'pilots watch', so to get it over a flight suit would not be possible.
The bezel is really thick, I would estimate twice a thick as a Rolex.GMT. It is bi-directional, and ratchetless. With a very smooth operation.
The crown is big, however it has no protection ie. there are no bulges on the case of the watch to deflect any knocks. Which is a bit worrying.
The back of the watch is engraved with the motif, name, model number, and spec. It is the deepest engraving Ive ever seen on a watch, and leaves the Chase-Durer motif enprinted on your wrist when you take the watch off.(and no its not too tight).

Marks out of ten......7

How do I take pictures of watches, without the light flashing about, all over them?

None technical please. The camera is a Kodak DC4800 digital effort.

Right then, feeding time and back to the pub.......:)

Ps. Reaction to the watch from the lads in the pub......'What the fcuk is that':D, Just the reaction I wanted!

FLAT ERIC 22 November 2003 09:39 PM

No problem Pete, glad you liked it.I envy you your open air flying though, wind in your face & those views.

Have one for me while your in there Yoza.Or two or three. What a game eh?I wore a hole in the carpet pacing up & down 2 minutes to full time. And again about 45 seconds from the end of extra time.

Regards pictures, keep the camera at an angle from the glass face. The more directly above it you are the more the flash will come back at you & blind the camera.;)

yoza 22 November 2003 11:36 PM

Mark,
I shall have to practice with the camera, Ive tried the angles bit, and it still glares.

As for have a drink for me, I hope you like Coca-Cola.:)
Not had a pint for a while....

IWatkins 23 November 2003 12:07 AM

yoza,

Diffuse the flash. Easiest way is a couple of sheets of tissue (bog roll, kitchen roll etc.) elasy-banded over the flash if you can.

Better still, do it in daylight, no need for flash :)

Cheers

Ian

newbie_scoobie 23 November 2003 09:26 PM

Oh, and tasty new watch Yoza!!!

Col

yoza 24 November 2003 10:03 AM

Col,
Enjoy yourself.

How ever many Jacob & Co you buy, you will sell.

The bigger the better, the more colourful ones with tacky bling bling 'diamonds' around the bezel, are going like hot cakes.

Note: You must let your customers know that the watches you are selling are 'replicas'. If you dont, and they pursue a charge, you will get knicked!

Sorry to bore everyone else.

StickyMicky 28 November 2003 12:03 AM

hmmm
i got a acurrist accu2 for my21st birthday of my mam and dad, i actualy really like it, from memory it was about £130 @ the time

ill only wear it when im going out or such, would never wer it to work or anything, not becuase its worth a lot of money (its not its down to £50 on the net now lmao) more personal reasons (i wanna pass it on when im a granda ;) )

but does say sumthing like a £600 watch, do the job any better then sumthing say about my watches worth? i doubt it, althou i could be wrong, does anybody really notice sumbodys watch and think "ooo its a blahh de bahh watch and its worth about £700"?

to me, theres ovb a diffrence from say a nice looking metal banded one and a cheap casio/megadrive combo, but after that i wouldnt know the diffrence!

if they go up in value then fairs fair i suppose ;)
