Hang on a minute... I`ve just read through dozens of posts, using Scum, pondlife, lowlife, twats and more, plus some colourful words added in name calling on bin men....
Also one ignorant member posting that the bin men can help themselves to tit bits from his bin and eat a meal or 2 from his waste.....
Is this your idea of not name calling and being civilised.... :cuckoo:

I use "Ignorant Jerk" to desrcibe my thoughts of this poster and it`s me that has his post deleted for being uncivilised and name calling..

I drive HGV for the Bin Lads, so I found his comment Personally Highly Offensive...... As for the names being used to describe what folk think of Bin Men... Hey, Whatever...... :Whatever_

If my posts are deleted for this offence, then it should mean ALL posts that include name calling should also be removed... But That is Stupid to do that..... So my comment, describing what I think of the poster still stands... I shall remove the profanity from my original post...

Bin men,not a chance, they wont empty if lid is open atall, they leave bin in middle of pavement with lid open so it collects all the water if it rains, the recycling box they do the same with but dont put brick on lid to stop it blowing away so if its windy you have to hunt for the lid! No need for it atall really so dont know why they feel the need to do it!

Postman, not a chance, post could turn up at any point through the day! They cant put it through properly so any tom dick or harry could easly help themselfs to it,thats if the rain dont get their first and make a massave paper mache! They just fill out the card in their van and post it through door, dont even ring bell to see if anyone is home to deliver parcel!

Ant 23 December 2011 01:21 PM

Individually and collective is the key furball.

DYK 23 December 2011 04:15 PM

Oh, the bin man, I think he's one of them.
The garbage man? Negative.
Oh, Jesus. Jesus! He's reaching for something.
Oh, God, he's got a gun. Stay on the line.
He's got a gun. He's got a gun.

They even blame the Bin man in movies :D

England - full of miserable c*nts.

Half the people here that won't even consider giving these guys something for xmas time are also the ones regularly complaining about lack of 'community spirit' and the way Britain's gone in recent years. The people doing services are only human. If you treat them like you expect them to do everything for you without thanks, you'll get the service you deserve. The whole "well, they were nasty first" thing is just petty.

lozgti1 23 December 2011 09:52 PM

Oh c'mon!

Post did used to be delivered early in the morning and your postie was ace!! Not now! Complete rubbish delivery sevice and different person a lot of the time!

Milkman used to be brilliant! Used to get on really well with ours and used to tip him every year.

moved house, milkman turns up well after we needed the milk, late in the morning.

My clients don't tip me for that sort of service! They would complain,be brassed off and understandably so! Why would they give me a tenner for being late lazy and rubbish??!

I don't think the hatred or however you see it is really directed at the bin men although its them that get it,i think its more towards the council in general. But as always happens in these situations, the messenger usually gets the bullet. They are the foot soldiers, the men on the ground on the front line. They are only taking orders from the daft twats in an office away from it all, probably earning ten times as much..
The days are gone when you had the same regular postman etc.

Well you have new labour and their EU cronies to thank for that. All the nice juicy bits were sold off for a song, while they left the nationalised part to deliver all the crap.

For me at least, none of what you say applies. It's not about anyone being nasty first, or about thanking them. I'm (probably like many others) not usually about when these people come as I'm out working myself, providing a service.

These people, just like me, get paid to do a job and do it. Why should people feel like they should tip? Unless I got to know the people doing the job, or they in some way went beyond what is the bare minimum, why would I then give extra to them? This is not me being nasty, it's just I honestly couldn't justify tipping as it stands. As said earlier, when I've been off, I've rarely seen the same postie twice, so what should I do? Give to whichever one I see nearest to Christmas? How is that fair to the others? And as for binmen, other than holidays, I'm never about when they collect so don't even have a chance for any personal service, for giving them thanks etc, what would I be tipping for there?

At the end of the day, if I was to go for a meal and the waiter/waitress gave good service and was friendly, they would get a tip, if not, they wouldn't. If I get a taxi, the same applies. These people are just doing what they are paid for too, but it's the type of service that determines a tip or not. What DYK says does come into the equation, things are different now and it's not necessarily the fault of the workers on the ground. It is a shame we're at this point (for alot of us) but such is life. I accept in certain services, they do what they are told and service is what it is, but miserable c*** or not, I'm not paying extra for it.

I think its coming more from the older days, when you had the same postman etc.You built up a personnel relation, had time to stop for a chat and so on.Just goes to show in todays modern society, with better communication through computers and our busy lives, how we have lost that human touch. Its just the way society is today.

Load of crap, you don't tip someone in the hope they give you good service next year ... People don't give the service they used to, so they don't get tipped.

My recycle bin is 3 foot from my gate and clearly full .. I forgot to pull it to the road side and they didn't help me ..

davegtt 24 December 2011 07:41 AM

Tipped the hair dresser yesterday if that makes me less of a scrooge? :D

Well said. You have a perfectly good rationale to support your argument against tipping. You don't have to follow a mob to keep up appearances. :thumb:

I'd only think of giving my postman and waste collectors sweets to share a joy of Christmas with them, nothing to do with their service. They do their job and get paid out of my taxes. That leaves me with no guilt.

It may have started with all good intentions, but it did became a divisive practice, as the poor could only tip a few pennies, whereas the rich ones competed with one another in tipping; to look richer and more generous. In today's time and age, as I said above, some tip to just keep up appearances. I am talking from my experience of the pretentious and hollow ones that I may know in real life.

Sorry to bring in others than the postpersons and the waste collectors, but places like Pizza Express now have "gratuity" option to click on their Streamline machines. You don't have to click, if you don't want to. But they continue to stare at your face to weigh your pocket, making you feel uncomfortable. They even ask you blatantly if you'd like to pay any gratuity. You feel as if you are in the Third World! You feel that you [ihave[/i] to tip, and you end up paying a fiver for no extraordinary experience of their ordinary service, which could have been handy to buy a butty on the motorway. I don't pay them any tip. Tipping should be a voluntary activity. Boll@x to any manipulation to get me into tipping for nothing special.

My rubbish was not taken away for the same reason once. I did put my bin out to meet their eyes; on the side of my drive. But they expected me to put it on the pavement. I didn't do so because I didn't want our senoir citizen neighbours colliding with my bin, while on a peaceful walk with their stick and a dog. But no! I had to ring the council to explain the H&S hazard. They do collect my bin from the side of my drive now.

If everyone thinks that, they most likely will be.

jef 25 December 2011 11:50 PM

maybe its just me, but in applicable situations,

if i feel ive received a fairly good service, im quite happy to tip the guys/girls for it.

am i old fashioned?
but to an extent its enjoyable also. when ive worked in past jobs where tips were welcomed these people certainly recieved the best service.

right or wrong that seems to be the way it is, and im quite happy to be involved

Flaps 29 December 2011 01:26 PM

I'm a teacher, I work damn hard and get lots of students many qualifications each year, I don't get even a 'thanks' from most of them!
No tips coming from our house this Christmas!
