Nimbus,

Sorry mate, I didn't mean to offend - I was just trying to say how much the car has evolved aethetically.

Yep! Just fine. Its a quote I nicked from 'The fast Show'. Well I thought it was funny anyway? :-/

I used Laurence as a metaphore of what a highly motivated, deeply mis-guided designer can do to something so pure and good.

It happens a lot... putting square headlights on a Jaguar, Round lights on the Ford 'bug-eye' Granada, Big Bumpers on the E-Type, Painting someones lounge Purple with lepard-skin couch. Criminal.

The new scoob ranks with these mistakes. And I thought I was so rational? form follows function,... but this is terrible.

FBF.

Daz,

No offence taken (hence the http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ). I do prefer look of the later car though, just also love the way the older ones look more understated (or should that be less overstated??). However, MY01 comes waaaaaaaaay down the list.

quote:
It seems the only people who have anything nice to say about the MY01, are people who have a vested interest in it's success.
So "they would say that wouldn't they".

What vested interest do i have david? like i said before, the car needs some work cosmetically, and it needs some work to improve the grunt. But handling is what really counts, and i'll take any current UK impreza on in the MY01 car on track, or fast flowing road, because it handles much better.

You really dont need power to be quick, anyone who has seen my Sport keeping up with a 22B and STi5 Type R will tell you that.

Let's cut to the chase then Gentle Folk (being P.C.)

Ideal world question.....

You all have the necessary money to buy a subaru Turbo (BRAND NEW 0 MILES)

Would it be a MY00 'previous design'
or a My01 'present design'

Runaround.........NOW.

lets know what u think.

Yes, but you're comparing apples with pears, your skills against anothers.

OK, so you might keep up with a 22B in a Sport, but you'll anihilate a Sport driven by those same people if you were in a 22B.

Point is, in a straight line the MY01 is slower. Fact.

The MY01 maybe more agile in the bends, but why not do that AND make the car as fast as it used to be? Where's the crime in that ?

harj 17 January 2001 09:13 AM

If I bought one I would have it Motec'd immediately http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Forget this poncy crap about the looks it how big the flames are http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Actually this gives me an Idea cus Scoobysport are already in process of modding their one so maybe their parts and a Motec could work? hmmmm

Watch this space http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

What vested interest in it's sucess do I have David??

I am merely an intersted party with no commercial gains except my own, ie. motorsport instructor.

I am only giving everybody my opinion...

Rob.

johnfelstead 17 January 2001 06:38 PM

No crime at all David, thats why i said it needs some work on the grunt.

I am sorry, but we are stuck with the fugly mother, lets get over it and start making it a great car and praise it where due. It does handle better, it has lost some grunt, it does look a bag of $hite compaired to the current car, but it isnt a bad car, it needs some work, thats all.

Jye 17 January 2001 08:06 PM

I've a MY99, and I not 2 sure of new cars looks either, but IMO the WRC looks the biz, and if I could get light pods (in carbon would be nice) similar to those on the WRC, along with a decent boot spoiler id be a bit happier with the 01.

personally i will keep my my00 for 3 years then buy a completely different car. i will keep my scooby coz i love it, but will go for a skyline or m3 next time as a second car. i'm sorry, but why should we put up with a car that is revolting to look at? numerous articles in motoring mags say the old one is more fun to drive. its the same old story...buy a scooby then end up spending a fortune putting basic things right, i.e. crap brakes, crap headlights, crap interior etc etc.
if i wanted to spend over 20k on a high performance car, and then a further small fortune improving it, i might as well buy a car that looks great, goes like stink, and is nice to sit in, e.g new m3, r34. maybe the new baby jag will be ok, who knows, but i will not buy a car i personally think is pig ugly.
and finally, do subaru think people will buy any old ugly crap, just coz its got a subaru badge on it? i for one will not!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Orville 18 January 2001 09:54 AM

FACT - Nearly everyone on this BBS thinks the new car is ugly.

FACT - Most of the genral public (outside of the Scooby world) think the old car is ugly.

The looks will grow on people. Eventually...
