It also amuses me that the so called Impreza experts on these forums all think that newage cars are slow due to being a bit heavier than the classic. Out of the box the heaviest of all the saloon Impreza STIs is 0-60mph in 5.1secs which is quicker than most of the standard classic turbos with the exception of a few special editions. They also handle a lot better.

Not knocking the classic, it was a monster of a car out of the box in it's time and still is today if modified... but come on... reality check anyone...

My classic type ra will blow your doors off 0-120mph  .....120 upwards am taking my ball in :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: ;) sorry just getting with the theme of the thread hehehehehehe :D

Tbh I have recently met Specky and he is a very down to earth, genuine kinda guy, I reckon "Loves blowing is own trumpet" couldn`t be farther from the truth. He comes across slightly off on the forums becasue everyone who doesn`t know him or the car tends to slate his car, despite the effort and time hes put in, depsite the 11.4s 1/4 it can run and depite that fact its quick by any standard and one of the fastest FWD in the UK. Mostly it gets slated just becasue its a Tigra!

P.S. the car can be seen in my thread in the gallery with my TOTB pics.

Here in britain/eu we have bendy roads everywhere, i dont see the point of drag. USA they have like straight roads in sqaure block formation so they seem avid fans of it.

I mean wtf, moded maestro turbo's and cherry turbo's compete in the drag events and drag faster than a ferrari. not really my scene at all lol

I'm more into circuit racing. On a racing rwisty circuit something like banny_sti's scooby would rinse the tigra in my opinion and lap faster..or do scooby peeps think im wrong?

Sorry to bring this up guys, but at the current moment i own a mk3 astra with the c20 xe engine in with a few mods running at 165bhp,i had my scooby taken away from me(please see thread-got the classic wrx bug again!!) and im bored sh1tless with the astra compared to the scooby,so im selling the astra and going back to a scooby,my 1995 wrx (running 286bhp@ the wheels) would make my astra look like my mrs 1.1 pug 206,ive now mentioned on the forum that im selling the astra to buy a scooby again and they are all saying that a tuned v6 astra mk3 will give it a run for its money,i basically said untill you have owned a scooby wrx shut the fcuk up,ive also owned a corsa 2.0 16v xe and yeah it was quick but no match for a scooby wrx!!!

there we go scooby nutts, you have it on good authority from someone who has had these engines in both cars that they will not beat a good scooby(unless its a 136bhp sport)

Rant over!!!-looking forward to getting shut of astra and having a proper car again!!!! classic wrx all the way!!:luxhello: :luxhello:

the LET is basically the anatation that vauxhall use to signify that the engine is turbo charged

XE is for NA engines

the calibra turbo engine was a c20LET (2litre turbo charged)
the mk3 astra GSI enigne often reffered to as a redtop was a c20XE (a 2litre NA engine)

also get the Z20LET which is the newer version of the turbo chagred engine in the mk4 astra GSI

and then to really add confussion the astra VXR engine is a Z20LEH with the H standing for high output even tho this is a turbo charged engine

HTH

however they are all based around T01LET :)

As stated above, a C20LET (turbo) engined Corsa/Astra will be very quick in a straight line, and will give most Impreza's a good run for their money, and will probably be quicker from 90mph+

However, you will appreciate how bad (ok bad isn't the way to discribe it, but you know what i mean) the Vauxhall is when you get out of it and have a proper drive something like an Impreza or an Evo.

To give you an idea how they compare a few friends and me did a driver training day last year, with a timed sprint circuit at the end.
My friend had his stripped out, roll caged Mk2 Astra, with uprated suspension, big brakes, 330+bhp engine, and LSD, but could still only get the same time as my 250bhp WRX (my car spec has changed a lot since then BTW), and was 3-4 slower than a standard newage STI, and that circuit even had 2 longish straights.
And no, he isn't a crap driver!!!

Yes, he'd be quicker on a motorway, but then most repmobiles are quicker than me on motorways, as i don't like going above 80mph. (getting old you see, and have had too many points on my licence)

I am not slagging off the Vauxhall marque, as i loved my old Astra Turbo, but untill these people have tried a Subaru or Evo properly (on the 'twisties') i just think they don't appreciate what they are missing out on.

I should know....i was like that before i bought my Impreza!!! ;)

That thread was highlighting that a members car had been brought up on another forum (Once again) in a negative light.

I appologise if people feel I was trying to stir, that was not my intention, forgive me for getting a little annoyed when a car and top bloke I spent all last weekend supporting gets slated. Some people on here seem to have a personal vendeta against Specky, I didn`t bite last time you were digging at him, couldn`t help it this time.

As for me posting on here as a different user, complete lies, get admin to check if you wish.

banny sti 02 August 2008 12:46 PM

Bicco, nothing against you mate your decent guy from what I remember when I came down to collect the tv from you.I have known Specky a lot longer than you (lives opposite my brother's house) and it is way he disregards the Subaru marque as being totally crap and calling them poobarus that starts to grate a bit after you hear for the millionth time.

He has yet to say one nice thing about my cars that is including the 2.5 car running 500bhp and is currently being uprated again with a rotated setup so you should be on the other side of 600bhp this time.

He even had the cheek to call my friends Ferrari 360 crap! Who in their right mind no matter how fast your car is, calls a 70k crap. The man needs to understand fast cars is a hobby for my friends and I, where as bodybuilding is my love and is something I am little more passionate about.

I`ll choose not to read that as "I know where you live and am built like a brick **** house!" ;):D

There is obviously more to your argument with him than I know about so I will leave alone, not my business.

I have a lot of respect for both you and Specky, I have a few times defended your car also, it`s one of my favourites on here, and no doubt exceptionally quick. Wish I`d never posted the link now, but never mind its done with now.

richie kaye 02 August 2008 02:08 PM

Had a drive in a corsa c20 let and yeah it was very quick but it didnt feel safe,if these cars were meant to have these engines then they would have been factory produced, now a scooby is a nice quick car to drive and feels safe with the 4wd system....Job done!!
