Sorry but this statement is absolute twaddle.

Have you heard of power to weight ratio?

M3 has a very advanced LSD, in fact the very best LCD and has amazing traction.

To compare a FWD against an M3 is a joke! To can't tell me you think a Ford is better engineered than an M3 and it faster in the real world.

I accept a WRX 06 v ST 225 may be close, but an M3!!

Eerm? Yes, I've heard of power to weight ratio, not sure you've grasped the concept though. If you use the figures you supplied (ie 300bhp and 1.26 metric tonnes for the scoob and 340bhp and 1.55 mt) then the power to weight ration for both cars are: Scoob - 238bhp/tonne; M3 - 219bhp/tonne.

Given these figures - and even the "very best LSD" I doubt the M3 would stay with the scoob?

Of course if your figures are wrong............................?:iamwithst

Well when I had my Focus RS (pre-Blufin) I had a play with an M3 on a dual carriage way, and although he pulled away from me, it wasn't at a very considerable speed. When I had it Blufin'd it would have been even less. So a modded St would easily give an M3 a good run, if not beat it.

In a straight line. The ST would have the WRX at any speed ONCE rolling. Off the mark then obviously the WRX would be quicker, but I reckon the ST would start to reel it in after that.
In the dry, the ST would keep up with the WRX on the twisties, but would struggle when wet.

Edited to add. Just noticed you said MY06, I drove the MY05 not the MY06. Sorry.

I had a little do with a 06 plate ST last week as it goes.

The fella had his tasty Lady at the side of him as we joined the M1/A1 link road.

As soon as we got on the Motorway he stayed in the Middle lane, I just went straight into the outside and blitzed him.

We both pulled off at the next junction, up the slip road and both had to wait to pull off.

His Mrs looked out of the passenger window & smiled, I just winked with a straight face and pulled away, cool as you like.

Nice looking Girl, slow Car.:thumb:

Oh yes, he had one of those Nuremburg stickers on the back, I think he fancied himself as a bit of a speed demon.:D

Nuremburg stickers? I gotta get myself one of those bad boys, adds 5bhp.

98Uk with decat and a dawes device at 1.2 bar is probably running in the region of 250bhp (maybe a little more depending on which rollers you use etc, but either way significantly more than when it left the factory). New 2.5 WRX has 227bhp. Throw in nearly 200kg extra weight for the WRX, coupled with that power defecit, have a guess at the result ;)

As for ST vs M3 debate, a modded ST with 280bhp (easy enough with chip & intercooler) could have ~200bhp/tonne and a very wide torque curve, so it's not surprising if it can keep very close to a 219bhp/tonne BMW with a slgihtly peakier delivery, especially if the driver is a touch sharper. Remember too the ST doesn't have the higher transmission losses you get in a Scoob . . . . Of course, off the line particularly in the damp, 4WD will beat RWD will beat FWD, but how many times do people really launch their scoobs?

Horses for courses etc. I can see some significant benefits to the ST; although to my mind its main competitors are the VXR and forthcoming Leon Cupra (when that gets ~240bhp), it does a similar type of job to the WRX, being better at some things but worse at others. Compare one to a good STi / spec C, let alone a highly modified or Type 25, it'll lose, but that's not exactly a level playing field, is it?

scooby are a diffent kettle of fish. they are a top class rally car made for the road and i love them for that. even though i do like there new EVO 320. but dont know anything about it. maybe you peps could tell me how good/bad they are.

id like to see how a WXR vs ST round a track. think evo have done it this month but with a STI and it can back around 7 secs faster.

also can you get a 02 plate 3 door scooby my GF is on about she got 1 comming that is going to blow me out the water. lol.
