Coming along nicely Ian :thumb:

The Trooper 1815 10 March 2013 01:42 PM

Here are some pictures of the progress.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psebf21c21.jpg

These have arrived and after some powder coating they
will be fitted to the wishbones, ARB's and ARB Mounts.

The arches have been stripped of their plastic covers and scrubbed with some special ingredients and warm water. At only £1 a bottle in Poundstretchers, it's pretty good.

After they had dried on with some chip paint.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psaf458d3f.jpg

The paint was left to dry and to keep the hands busy I got the front suspension mated up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psae7ba270.jpg

KYB G Excel and the matching MX5 Part springs.

The only major fly in the ointment to date are the rear hubs. They needed some heat and a hacksaw to get the wishbones off.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps44370102.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psef09b32e.jpg

They are now off and will get a good scrub and maybe a bit of paint.
I have also purchased a set of new rear arch liners, one of the old ones was split and the second had a hole it it. Remarkable value for OE Mazda parts at £12 each.

So, the next phase is fitting the new Exhaust whilst the parts are being powder coated/painted and cracking on with the rear arches and suspension.

See you soon.

Getting busy with the polish.

And the sander.

As the weather is very cold I made a hot bake room from a garden storage box and a fan heater. Dry in no time.

The ARB's are getting a Hammerite Rust Cure.

More Progress.

All the wishbones have now had a good coat of Kurust.

Before.

During.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps746bf692.jpg

After.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps25cb2b45.jpg

Got the top wishbones and a set of ARB's painted up and then fitted some bushes.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps0142147e.jpg

Decided against the powder coating purely because of cost. They have had a few good undercoats of primer and a few more coats of Hammerite Chip Paint.

bustaMOVEs 28 March 2013 08:05 PM

Good work, I bet them wishbones were a pita to strip and refit

The Trooper 1815 28 March 2013 09:46 PM

Oooh yeah.

KJD Mk1 29 March 2013 11:32 PM

We are missing a trick here, that's 3 of us that could of made good use out of a sand blasting cabinet, all this rubbing down is hard work:nopity:

Looking good Ian :thumb:

Three down (OSF not done yet). The plan is to get the car rolled out of the garage this weekend.

JonMc 08 April 2013 11:10 PM

Some tidy work going on there, fancy one of these myself as an extra little project:D

The Trooper 1815 09 April 2013 05:23 PM

Jon, it's been a breeze really. The Haynes Miata Manuel from the US (via Ebay) as been a bonus and the lads in the local garage have been a massive help too.

I looked long and hard for the car and have found no major issues with it since May last year. A plug lead had a short and the electric antenne stopped working (it's on a K Plate so should be expected). But the AC and everything else works lovely, including the headress speakers.

Rear hubs on soon. They are having the rusted bolts removed and then I can Kurust and Waxoyl them. Should be rolling by the weekend :norty:.

big daz2 09 April 2013 07:01 PM

That's looking really nice Ian

bustaMOVEs 09 April 2013 07:28 PM

These cars are quite reliable tbh, not much goes wrong with them and pure fun to be had.

The Trooper 1815 17 April 2013 11:21 PM

Managed to get the rear nearside hub sorted tonight.

So from this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps4ea85271.jpg

Some more coats of Chip Paint then on to this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psdabd7e42.jpg

And to keep me busy while the tea was brewing I got busy with the Meguires Metal Polish.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a67046-1-1.jpg

The Trooper 1815 28 April 2013 10:57 PM

Both sides now done.

Front arch liners replaced with new plastic clips.

Off for alignment on Tuesday, yeah hey.

They after a clean up and a quick polish the search for SC power begins.

big daz2 29 April 2013 08:17 PM

She's looking amazing mate
