So, is this for sale m8 or you trying a repair?

its for sale, i was under the impression that the bearing had gone in the gear box which handles the gears which dont work, i could be complettley wrong and as previously mentioned on the thread may just be one gear need replacing.

if its just one gear or a whole box, its still a good deal ,

To replace 5th gear you're looking at about £200

if its just one gear, and then theres the fitting costs, ever time ive paid to have a box in or out before its been £300, i just cant afford it.

so folks could be a really good bargain it its just one gear.

I'm interested, but am just wondering if there's any other weak points to the running gear etc due to the power? Forgive me, don't know too much about Scoobs (except that they're awesome :D )

well haven't had any problems regarding any of the running gear, the only reason fifth gear went was because it wasn't upgraded,

the previous owner is subscribed to the thread so ill ask him

Tail Slider 30 January 2012 01:24 PM

Is there not a possibility there is more damage than just a broken 5th gear cog? surely people can only speculate the damage until the box is opened and inspected.

Correct, but 5 k, it's a deal either way ?

My old car - it's a PPG straight cut gearbox (google it for more info) like the scoob rally cars of old so is very strong, people running big power either go 6 speed or this. Advantage of the PPG is that it's a lot lighter than the 6 speed. The straight cut gears 1 through 4 should be very strong, 5th was left standard to give a higher top end & indeed this is what most people do with it. As Banny says above a simple repair should only be a few hundred £'s ...

It's a bloody bargain imho esp considering what's been spent to get it to almost 450hp - look at the parts & add up the cost. if I had £5k I'd buy it back.

TX.

Banny, who would you suggest for the 5th gear repair, and what power is the PPG is question rated to? Ive heard to many folk reverting back to 6 Speed having owned PPG due to failures beyond 450-500bhp (the rated power output of these)

Rob

ps Im asking as im interested in the car dooda ;)

i really dont like threads like this. such good and well spec cars going for silly low money! like others have said above, it i had the money i would snap his arm off.

i know form first hand experience how much £££ it takes to get a classic into these numbers!

stonejedi 30 January 2012 05:55 PM

£3k + VAT for a 6 speed conversion

Sorted! Cheers Pete was great to chat. See you later this week ;)

[jF] 03 February 2012 07:31 AM

I've had to pull out of this, due to being an idiot and jumping in before I knew what numbers could be involved with a box rebuild.

Pete has been a spot-on guy and very upfront, so sorry to be a pain in the ass.
